Reality Check re: new voters registered
from American Family Voices

Overlooked by all the hue and cry of the ups and downs in the national horse race numbers is the remarkable story of what is going on state by state in the field. On the ground is the most remarkable person-to-person political organizing effort in modern history.

Look for a moment at the numbers of names that have been entered into American Families United central database on all the voters registered by progressive non-profit groups:

Florida: 296,640
Pennsylvania: 163,024
Missouri: 73,241
Oregon: 46,026
Arizona: 117,886
Ohio: 200,270
Michigan: 103,005
Wisconsin: 72,380
Minnesota: 35,015
Nevada: 38,755

1. That is atleast a million folks listed, and none have been polled
Dems are out registering republicans 2 to 1, yet people would rather believe that Bush can actually win this time.

He lost in 2000, he'll loose in 2004, with out his media he is nothing.

TURN THAT SHIT OFF!

2. I think it's more than 2 to 1 Dem.
History shows that. I think its more like 3 or 4 to 1 Dem and pro-Kerry.

10. #$(*$#)@&$)#@!! This is what I've been saying for ages!
My own election board told me that new registrations are coming in to the tune of 500-1000 a day, an this is a middling city in a small population state (New Mexico).

You can't tell me that people are getting out there to register because they are passionately in love with Idiot. These folks are registering (some for the first time in their lives) to get RID of that man and his corruption!

And no, nobody's polling them.

3. the issue
is turning those voters out. In recent years, a majority of the newly registered voters have not turned out to vote. I hope this year is different.

9. yeah I've heard that
his "vote or die" gotv org. He's non-partisan in his approach but I'm gonna go ahead and assume that most of the people he's registering will be Democratic voters.

12. How do we know that most of these people are going to vote Dem?
I realize that it's mostly low income, minority and women voters that are being registered, and those are Democratic demographics. But what if there's a Republican surge among them? How do we know? Perhaps many of them will vote Repug. And what about those who register but don't vote? I want to be optimistic about this, but I don't see why I'm supposed to be totally convinced all these people will go to the polls and, if they do, vote for Dems. Also, aren't newly registered voters included on "all registered voters" polls? Just a few questions. I'd appreciate anyone who brings back my optimism by answering them. :-)
