Bob Dole calls on John Kerry to demand that MoveOn.org take down ad
Fuck him, the fucking hypocrite. He seemed happy to endorese the purple-heart-smearing Swift Boat Liars.

Statement by Former Senator Bob Dole
Fri Sep 17 2004 00:39:35 ET

ARLINGTON, VA -- Former Senator Bob Dole issued the following statement:

"As Chairman of the Bush-Cheney Veterans Coalition, and as a veteran, I call on John Kerry to demand that MoveOn.org take down their ad depicting a defeated American soldier.

It's one thing to debate whether we should take the fight to the terrorists, but depicting an American soldier in effect surrendering in the battle against the terrorists is beyond the pale.

I cannot believe that John Kerry, who reminds us daily of his Vietnam service, would possibly approve the disgusting and demoralizing portrayal of American soldiers fighting for us in Iraq, Afghanistan and around the world.

John Kerry has raised doubts about our troops' ability to maintain security as well as Iraqi's ability to decide their own future through elections. He has called the allies in Iraq "window dressing." This is all reminiscent of his appearance before a Senate Committee in 1971 where he suggested with nothing but second hand information American GIs were committing atrocities and war crimes of the worst kind in Vietnam.

This defeatist attitude undermines the great progress and sacrifices of our men and women in the military and the contributions of our allies who are fighting against terror and standing up for freedom around the world.

The politics of pessimism that is being pursued by John Kerry and the extreme liberals demonstrates they are consumed by the past with nothing to offer but attacks on the President's agenda for creating a safer world.

John, say it isn't so and denounce this latest effort to divide Americans"

END

3. Bob Dole is a disgrace to America
f*ck him; with that last stunt he pulled against Kerry (i.e. the "never shed a drop of blood"), he has no right to criticize ANY veteran. at least some soldiers incur wounds from the enemy, not their own stupidity, in order to win their medals (and yes, i know that's over the top, but so is this a*shole).

5. You know what this means - time for us all to donate whatever we can to
MoveOn.org to air this ad....Any time something can elicit the response of various Republican Attack Dogs, then you know its got to be good....Considering the response the Swift Boat Liars were able to elicit with their ads, then an ad showing the truth about what is happening to our poor sons and daughters who are basically stuck in a quagmire and are "targets" in a shooting gallery and focuses the attention on the REAL War to be paying attention to, namely the IRAQ War, is an ad we should all support with what we can. I just got on to MoveOn and donated....DUers, even if its $5, just think how good you'll feel even if you had to sacrifice a several cups of Joe from your favorite Brew at the corner coffee shop knowing that its helping someone in a Battleground State see the truth and have a different message than just the same ole lies from the Swift Boat Liars....

You will be dragged down to hell with the rest of the 'pubs when your time comes. Where were you when Kerry was asking Bush to denounce the Swift Boat Liars? Oh yeah, you were right there adding gasoline to the fire, weren't you? F*cking hypocrite!

And to think I almost used to like the guy--thought he had a sense of humor in spite of his dour image. It looks like he has completed his bargain with the devil and the sale of his soul is no longer pending.

9. Interesting choice of words "Defeated American Soldier".
I saw this "Moveon" still from this ad on Drudge. The caption then read "US Soldier in Surrender Position". I sent them this email. "What a ludicrous accusation. Never have I seen a soldier "surrendering" with his rifle still in his hand. That soldier is clearly walking thorough a swamp trying to keep his gun dry. I thought you guys had some concern about credibility? That caption is plain stupid." A moment later the caption was changed to "Defeated American Soldier". Exactly the term used by Dole. And it is still there.

I hope MoveOn is not actualy running it anywhere. Watch it and decide for yourself. The words are great, but the image of a soldier sinking into the "quagmire" is not helpful. Use the words and ditch the image, Moveon.

17. Bad ad is a matter of opinion & depends on your definition - results are
and responses to an ad is what I judge an ad by....if the desired effects are to have people in Battleground States stop and think for a moment about the REAL WAR that they should be concerned about (like IRAQ as opposed to Vietnam) or that they think for a moment about the word "Quagmire" (maybe even wonder what it means if they don't know it already) and think about our sons and daughters (all 1020 and growing) then I'd say even if it had bad graphics and sound and whatever else one might "judge" an ad by, then I'd say if it accomplishes the above mentioned things to counter a really bad ad full of mistruths and misleading (think Swift Boat Liars) then I'd say Moveon's ad is excellent and deserves to have a bunch of viewings and runs for weeks to come....maybe even an award.

"The politics of pessimism that is being pursued by John Kerry and the extreme liberals demonstrates they are consumed by the past with nothing to offer but attacks on the President's agenda for creating a safer world."

Does he mean the pessimism of the US State Department?

Or the pessimism of the CIA's latest NIE?

Or the pessimism of the UK's Royal Institute of Foreign Affairs?

Or the pessimism of the rightwing thinktanks?

Or the pessimism of Republican senators such as Luger and Hagel?

What I see in the add is that we are sinking in Quick Sand in Iraq.
Not surrendering.
A soldier would hold his gun out of a swamp, or sand or "quick sand" as long as possible to keep it in working order.
Another fine spin by the gop.

I see a soldier who's abandoned, ill-equipped, and misdirected sinking into a quagmire of illegal policies and self-serving decisions. He is a "defeated" soldier--except that his enemy is the Bush regime!

And to paraphrase Mr. Dole when called out on his theory that Kerry hadn't bled enough to earn any purple hearts, that's just politics.
