Q: Why isn't this father consoling his daughter?
Edited on Fri Sep-17-04 10:48 AM by NewYorkerfromMass

And why is he just standing there looking like a victim?

I'm a dad, and I'd be cradling my daughter and consoling her.

It's such a phony and posed photo op it's ridiculous. The picture itself is as good an indictment as any when coupled with all the other evidence.

3. A picture is worth a billion words here.
The "sad sap" face of the dad is prepostorous.

Oh yeah, and why does the union guy look like the dad? (snicker)

9. Yep! a prop, my sentiments too when I first saw it, why would a father
bring his small child to an opposing camp especially in this highly charged presidential race?

5. That was one of the things that made me think it was fake right off
That and the fact that it's actually the father who is holding the pieceed of the sign, not the little girl. He's holding it in front of her.

Also, he's not confronting the "union" guy who just ripped his little girl's sign. If I were the parent and this happened to me, I'd have the little girl in my arms and I'd be moving away from the attacker as quickly as possible, not leaving her up there in the air uncomforted and vulnerable to another attack.

Of course, he knew that the guy wouldn't attack his daughter - the "attacker" is his own son, and the little girl is the attacker's brother, and the union shirt he's wearing doesn't belong to him.

This is such slime. Faking an attack while wearing a union shirt to make Kerry supporters and union guys look bad.

Just a kid from central casting borrowed for the occasion.

21. She's his daughter - he has ten children
The guy on the left wearing the union shirt is one of his sons. The little boy on the right is another son. There's a family photo of the whole crew somewhere around here.

The son is not a painter. He's in military intelligence with the National Guard. Another grown daughter is also in the military.

11. I'm a parent. I know exactly what I'd do.
and what is in this picture isn't one of them. When my daughter was 3, she'd be right against my breast if this happened.

10. I HAVE A 3 YEAR OLD
there is no way I would of done any of what this ass did..

I woudln't of brought my 3 year old to an oppositiion rally...

I wouldn't of put my daughter in a situation where she might hear some lude comments...

and I certainly wouldn't of been sitting there looking so pathetic..I would of carried her off my shoulders and walked away consoling her...

SICK...I feel sorry for that little girl...she is being victimized by her own fucking family....

12. Perfect product placement
Dad's holding the torn sign - not the little girl. She probably doesn't even know what the hell is going on. Fake union guy has a piece of sign in his hand. If you study the photo, you can tell it's a set up.

I wanna know what was done to the poor girl to make her cry.

15. Take something (toy. lollipop) OUT of a kid's hand and they'll cry
If I'd been a total jerk who wanted to exploit a child to get this photo-op, I'd give her something "special" (candy, a Barbie, anything) and then snatch it away and hand her the ripped sign.

But you could do it by talking up how special the sign is, too.

16. You're right -
snatching something she loves away from her would work. She's not holding the torn sign though - she's got both hands on top of asshole's head. He's holding it. She could care less about the sign.

Does it even look like she's holding the sign? Were any of the people in the photo interviewed about what happened?

This guy has had the unfortunate luck of being assaulted by Democrats the last 2 Presidential Elections - I found this via Atrios:

18. You guys are so right
She's not holding the sign - he is. And he's not comforting her because he's displaying her. I wonder what they did to make her cry? Why is her brother's hand in a fist? Did he hit her then stand back to look at her reaction? I wonder. I wonder, too, what is that woman wearing the visor saying?

It's just horrible.

19. And "big brother" (Dad's left) sees what happened and he is not yelling
at the perp. There was a followup picture and the big brother is looking straight ahead minding his own beeswax. So the father doesn't even look at the perp and the big brother looks at the perp and does nothing. What do we have her? A bunch of actors.

24. If that were MrG. First off, he wouldn't be there. Second, he would
have handed our daughter off to her brother and the picture that resulted would definitely not show the alleged ripper. He'd be laying on the ground holding his face.

what lengths would daddy go to to make sure she was really crying?

33. You are correct - he is holding unto the sign. Is that why it tore?
Unless someone is holding tightly unto the sign it is not going to tear. With a 3-year-old, someone grabs the sign and they would get the whole sign - it wouldn't tear. My guess is she was crying about something else (maybe she is hot and tired), they staged the sign grab and the photographer snapped the picture. A kid that age - someone grabs something from them, she is going to be pointing at them as well as crying - unless she was crying already and her Dad was actually holding the sign which was grabbed.
