Matthews on Hardball slammed Bush hard.
Talking about the CIA intel estimate, said (paraphrased) "The president is out on the campaign trail, saying Iraq isn't as bad as the media makes it out to be, things are improving, democracy is coming. However, the very people who are telling the president whats going on in Iraq are saying that the situation is collapsing. Its not working."

He also said this is THE thing that will kill Bush in the election, if Kerry has 'got the right stuff' to take advantage of it.

1. About 8 months ago
many of the pundits were saying "If Iraq is going well, Bush will be tough to beat and if it isn't Kerry can win." Well, it looks like they were right, and most of the theater in between then and now ( swift lies, etc) was just that -- entertainment for the easily confused.

2. Does Tweety have one core value?
Has he ever evinced a consistant viewpoint?

The man is seriously hampered by mood swings.

9. He's been saying he was against the war.
But I never noticed it during the runup.

3. There is much news this morning that Iraq is collapsing ....
and how poorly the administration is running the whole thing. Hopefully that will sink in to the 50% who approve of the war.

4. And Kerry is starting to slam Bush on Iraq
Question is.........will the media latch onto this as a top story and start badgering Bush people non-stop on the media shows. I doubt it. Ed Gillepie was on yesterday after the report about how bad things are and will get and after Kerry gave a speech about Bush "lies" about the war in Iraq and Woodfruff never put Gillespie's feet in the fire. He was still was allowed to prattle on about flip-flops and what is Kerry's policy in Iraq.

It's about time that the media realize that this is Bush's war.

14. I saw that too.........Woodruff with Gillespie
And quite frankly, it looked to me that Terry got the best of it. Sure Eddie-baby went on about flip flops and I haven't figured out crap, but it looked tired, old and made Gillespie look like a fish gasping for air.

I think the Kool-Aid is wearing a little thin with folks right about now, and Iraq headed down the tubes will be the antidote.

11. With Matthews...Don't Bismirch JFK!
He pounds Repubs that try to hijack JFK quotes (a la tax cut crap) and seems pretty rough on Swift Boat Pond Scum for Bush.
I think he has a soft spot for PT Boat commanders with initials JFK!

I cannot keep up with his whims. One day Kerry will lose big the next Bush is done, tomorrow Kerry won't stand a chance.

10. Reality Check
Chris Matthews is a news guy with a show called Hardball. On Bill Maher he convincingly stated his political preferences but he has a show to run. If he leaned too far one way or the other he wouldn't get people to express their opinions on his show. That's his job!

12. Wait a minute.
He also said this is THE thing that will kill Bush in the election, if Kerry has 'got the right stuff' to take advantage of it.

Didn't he say the election was over last week? Several people posted that he did, I recall. Am I confusing him with someone else?

17.  Iraq getting better, tell that to dead soldier's Mothers...
But bush will not face those grieving Mothers. Bush has not attended one single funeral to honor those dead soldiers or to comfort those Mothers in person. That is shameful and heartless.

I use the Mothers because We the Mothers, suffer openly while most Fathers suffer in silent.

18. I believe he also mentioned Lyndon Johnson
and said that we now know, through declassified documents, that LBJ was saying everything was fine in public while saying things were a mess in private.

Richard Holbrooke was a very strong guest on the show, and even the Republican had to admit things were a mess.

Let's hammer this point home.

19. I think Matthews has a son of draft age...he mentioned once, that the...
Young Matthews was supporting and maybe even working for Howard Dean, early on in this campaign season.

That has a way of focusing some peoples minds in a wonderful way.

I think we can count on old Hardball to help us when he can, but an illusion of evenhandedness must be maintained. Otherwise, the waverers and undecideds will decide he is as tainted in his way as FOX is in theirs.

Chris Matthews has long been beating the drum for us when we, or events of the day, give him a drum to beat.

I'll say one thing in his favor: on the war he's been consistent - one of the few whores.
