HAVE SUGGESTIONS FOR KERRY ADS?
I believe the Democrats should be ambitious. They should not just be trying to squeak though a victory over Bush, but to take back Congress... and try for a political realignment of the nation. After all, that's what Carl Rove is trying to do for the Right.

The Democratic Party needs more "branding" to borrow a marketing term. There have to be clearer distinctions between the Dems and the GOP... and that can't effectively be done if Kerry refuses to expose the Right's "secret" agenda to "strangle the beast".... or if Kerry can't even use the correct deficit numbers. Bush has handed Kerry a winning issue and Kerry doesn't have the sense to use it effectively. Either that or he's giving Bush a break because Kerry's fudged his own budget numbers.

Kerry's message also lacks a crucial unifying theme that provides a reasons why its imperative to vote Democratic and why Bush and the GOP can not be trusted. Here's a proposed ad. The theme can be expanded to include the radical neo-cons who are behind the the disastrous Iraq war. The ad blends truthful attacks, shocking graphics, and that positive Democratic message.

Voiceover: "What ever happened to the old Republican Party? Once they promoted fiscal discipline and balanced budgets. That party is gone."

(pics of Lincoln, TDR and Ike)

Voiceover: "The Republicans have been taken over by a radical fringe. Their agenda? To sabotage government programs you depend on by bankrupting the treasury. They call it "strangling the beast".

(misc quotes from Grover Norquest etc)

Voiceover: "How will they do this? They tell American's there's a free lunch... that tax cuts, no matter how irresponsible, are the answer to everything. They buy your vote today with money borrowed from our children.... our children! Then they spend, spend, spend."

(pics of cute kids and college grads)

Voiceover: "Just take a look at the Bush deficit for just this year.... 600 Billion =

(show some shocking graphic that 600 Billion $1 bills would an entire NCAA football field (including end zones and sidelines... 160x360') to a height of 455 FEET.

Voiceover: "While President Clinton and the Democrats brought the nation to a budget surplus protecting vital programs like Social Security, George Bush's fiscal policies are SO irresponsible that we can no longer fight the war against terrorism without borrowing money from nations like China. Think about that. China!"

(Graphics of Clinton surplus and Bush deficits.... )

Voiceover: "Bush says he knows exactly where he wants to lead this nation. That's what we all should be afraid of."

1. That sounds like a good one.
I'd like to see a split screen, two pictures of *, and a voice saying, "Which * Do You Believe" and then his flip flop statements. We are going to get OBL, what difference does it make. No nation building, building a better Iraq, changing the world, etc.

2. I detect a pattern
Edited on Fri Sep-17-04 08:52 AM by ulTRAX
One of the most effective techniques in a good speech is to have a repetitive line that drives home a key message. It's even better if it's something the crowd can pick up on and chant at the appropriate time. So assuming he doesn't already have one, I've been wondering what this one-liner could be for Kerry. What I've come up with seems to suit his patrician manner. It also helps "brand" Democrats and Republicans and hopefully will get voters to rethink whether they can trust Bush rhetoric.

KERRY: "I detect a pattern.... George Bush ran on protecting Social Security. But his irresponsible tax cuts threaten the very program he pledged to protect. Then he offers a "solution"...... that Social Security can be privatized.....and his Wall Street buddies can make a killing and you're left holding the bag. Well, we're on to their scam."

"I detect a pattern..... Bush wanted to steal Medicare as an issue from the Democrats who have always protected it. But they could not resist making their so called drug "benefit" a give away to the drug industry while we are deprived of reasonably priced medicine. Well, we're on to their scam."

"I detect a pattern. George Bush brought neo-con extremists in his own administration who created a radical new foreign policy doctrine that we can invade and occupy nations that pose no threat to us. Then when it blows up in our face, Bush doesn't hold them accountable but misleads the public just to stay in power. Well, we're on to that scam too.

4. STOP THE INSANITY: REGISTER NOW; VOTE IN NOVEMBER

I proposed at the Kerry forum that it was pointless to spend so much money on swing voters when there probably some 110 million non-voters. I proposed trying to reach them with a cheaper ad campaign... bus ads and ads in small newspapers. It all hinges on a short message that might get the average uninvolved citizen to get concerned over the direction of the nation. The idea was to show a picture of some recognizable sports stadium or large building in the area and then showing a mountain of cash that represents Bush's deficit or debt. The basic idea came from http://www.crunchweb.net/87billion/ My hope is to get the average citizen furious over Bush's fiscal irresponsibility and to show the folly of tax cuts when the nation is deep in debt. BWT... the national debt equals 5.4 World Trade Center towers of tightly packed $1 bills.

Tagline: Stop the insanity: register now. Vote Democrat in November.
