CNN must be shamed for using the discredited Gallup.

Gallup's Credibility Gap
What's with those wild swings in the polls?

Thursday, October 26, 2000 12:01 a.m. EDT

"The Gallup Poll just has no credibility with me anymore," the network producer sighs. "Even if the survey methods are valid, how can you tell viewers that a swing of 15 points in four days is realistic?"

3. Read this!
Gallup and CNN, a major sponsor of its poll, insist they have a plausible explanation for this. Gallup told the Washington Post that in 1996 fully 25% of the people they contacted changed their party identification at least twice. That seems highly implausible, and James Campbell, a polling expert at the State University of New York at Buffalo, says it's "crazy" and misleading to base nightly poll results on a hypothetical electorate that switches party identification so readily.

This article is from October, 2000. Good find! I will write to CNN. Have a few things I've been saving up to tell them anyway.

19. Hey, I'm one of the people Gallup contacted in 1996, I've never changed
my registration from Democrat. That's also the only time I've ever been called for a poll.

5. that's not just the WSJ that's JOHN FUND!
AKa John "I'll NEVER swerve from RNC talking points" Fund of MSNBC and CNN talk show fame. This must have been useful to Rove at this particular point in 2000 to have John write it up. Interesting.

i just can't listen to what the gallop poll says anymore...i mean come
on, they have been reporting huge swings and then i heard judy
woodruff say...oh yeah, the electorate is really volatile afterall?

come one guys, you can do better than just verbatim passing these
questionable polls on to the public..could you at least question the
shaky methodology behind the numbers?

thanks

14. Done and done. My letter.
I think such a huge swing, especially considering that no other pollsters have reported this swing, indicates a bad sample or bad data.

You may wish to look into this, as giving inaccurate data could prove damaging to your credibility.

Sincerely,

15. cnn/gallup POOP: remember cnn/gallup poll 27- Oct-2000 + link
http://www.cnn.com/2000/ALLPOLITICS/stories/10/27/cnntime.poll/

October 27, 2000

A CNN/USA Today/Gallup tracking poll was also released Friday. That poll gives Bush a 52 percent-39 percent edge over Gore. More important, both polls show the same snapshot of the current state of the presidential campaign: a solid advantage for Bush.

My hamster is a better pollster than CNN/Gallup.

17. Gallup is a VERY "Coporate America" which heavily supports Bush
You can't trust polling to a bunch of corporations run by the Fortune 500's!

1992: Gallup Goes "Daily" With CNN and USA Today

In 1992, during a time of proliferation of national and local polling organizations, The Gallup Organization produced another major breakthrough by forming a polling partnership with CNN and USA Today. This partnership made it feasible to expose the public to polls that were not only accurate but that were also reported on a more frequent (daily) and more comprehensive basis than ever before. Gallup and its media partners helped carry out a new mission for polling, while maintaining the highest ethical standards for public opinion journalism in a democratic society. In the words of Dr. Gallup, "If politicians and special interests have polls to guide them in pursuing their interests, the voters should have polls as well."

Gallup built its own television studio with The Gallup Poll’s Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Frank Newport, as anchorman.

How can you trust a company who writes a book called " First,Break All the Rules,"...

http://www.gallup.com/content/default.aspx?ci=1357&pg=5

No, Gallup has their OWN AGENDA in this election and to plant seeds of doubt is their job right now--NOT FAIR POLLING! They think if enough people see these rank polls them they will begin to believe them.
