Democrats accused of ripping Bush signs (little girl story)
Well, the story made it to the Washington Times. It will probably be on Talk Radio and the other RW shows later today. Who said that a picture is worth a thousand words?

Democrats accused of ripping Bush signs

By Robert Stacy McCain
THE WASHINGTON TIMES

A West Virginia man said yesterday that Democrats stole his family's Bush-Cheney campaign signs at an event featuring Democratic vice presidential candidate Sen. John Edwards.

"They just pounced on us," said Phil Parlock, who took his 11-year-old son, Alex, and 3-year-old daughter, Sophia, to the Democratic rally at Tri-State Airport in Huntington, W.Va.

Sophia became briefly famous yesterday when an Associated Press photo showing her in tears after Democrats tore her sign to pieces was posted on Matt Drudge's Web site, www.drudgereport.com.

"She was crying; they were pushing and shoving her," said Mr. Parlock, a Huntington real estate agent. "She was scared."

1. There are many pictures of right wingers assaulting Kerry supporters
The right wing can dish it out, but they can't take it.

What happened to the little girl was unfortunate, but similar things have been documented repeatedly where right wingers attack Kerry supporters.

Where's the outrage for all the previous abuse by the right wing? :)

9. Who can best exploit an event for propaganda?
The 3-year old girl, blonde to boot, wins hands down!

Forget the issue of the incident and let's just talk from a propaganda point of view. Look at this picture:

Did you notice the ethnic minorities in the background? This is West Virginia. How do you think that will play out?

13. They encountered trouble bringing a Buxh sign to a Kerry rally???
Edited on Fri Sep-17-04 02:34 AM by JohnnyRingo
Had the roles been reversed....the protesters and their sign would have been in jail long before it could have been ripped up.

On edit....
Who started this "With us...or aganst us" shit, anyway?

15. Again, this picture makes me laugh.
I'm not sure why it's so funny, it just is! It's like an Itchy and Scratchy cartoon. I wish it had a sound track of the girl bawling, then I think all of you would see how truly hilarious this is...
Call me sick, it's just funny...

25. I wonder why this father would put his child in danger?
He knew there was going to be adversity and he used her.

Don't you remember that they've gassed leftie children at a leftie rallie and the response was the same. Double standards, again.

24. Heh
What you have to believe is that somebody grabbed the sign, tore it and the father still hung around with his 3-year-old daughter.

There are only two sane reactions. 1) Go apeshit on whoever did it; 2) Get my 3-year-old out of there. This guy did neither.

5. I don't approve of this behavior
But I also don't approve of the inevitable media coverage it will receive. And its coverage will eclipse that of the Gold Star Mom, the woman who had her hair pulled, the thousands dead in Iraq on both sides, etc.

12. BINGO!
You get a cigar and a balloon. This "incident" should consume oxygen for at least a couple of days, at least until Dan Rather gets publicly canned by CBS. Then it was October!

6. This looks like a story about an unfit parent.
Seriously, if someone knowingly exploits a child, as this jackass did, he can hardly be a fit parent.

The other irony is that * screens rallies so carefully, the shithead with the kid would have been arrested for that sort of stunts at a */Cheney rally.

8. Guy shows up with two little kids, looking for trouble
He finds the trouble he is looking for and goes right to the press.

The bastard ought to be put in jail for child endangerment. The whole thing is madness, like everything about bush.

17. This man is a serial publicity opportunist
Just google his name and you'll be amazed at finding him quoted in articles about attending Bush rallies and about Jessica Lynch. Apparently he drags his ten children to every political event and jumps in front of the camera at every given opportunity.

It seems obvious to me that he got exactly the response he was looking for by attending this particular rally. After all, if he was supposed to be protesting, could someone explain to me exactly what he was trying to say? The sign was not a sign of protest, but one of support for the opposite candidate. Correct me if I'm wrong, but so far, I haven't heard a single word of "protest" from the Mr. Parlock. I'll be interested to hear what was said that lead up to the initial confrontation, if it ever gets reported. I'm sure it will be very enlightening.

19. Even many over at Free Republic agree that taking small children to an
event like this and having them hold opposing signs is extremely poor judgement. I think the father cares more about making a political point and getting in the papers than about his own children.

23. This guy pulled the SAME stunt in 2000 and in 1996...
He deliberately brought Republican signs to Democratic rallies, obviously in hopes that he would have them grabbed away/torn. And he brought his 12-year-old son in 2000.

26. So there are no pictures on anyone actually tearing up the signs?
It's just this wingnut and his story and the media jumps all over it.

How do we know he didn't tear the sign up himself and stick it in her hands and then start making a scene?

What about eye-witness accounts?

So far all we have is a pic after the fact and this guy's story.

BTW: Turns out this guy does this all the time. Plus the photographer is in cahoots with him. The whole thing sounds like bull to me.

27. Call me old-fashioned
But if you're a member of one party, and you show up at a political rally for the other party just to disrupt and cause trouble, you deserve to get your ass kicked. I don't care if you're a Democrat showing up at the Republican Convention or a Republican showing up at a Kerry Rally, I think the partisan crowd has every right to slap you silly.

Want to show your support for your candidate? Attend one of his fucking rallies. Is that so hard to figure out?
