Another shot of the little girl whose dumb dad brought her to the Edwards
rally:

Caption: Sophia Parlock, 3, cries while seated on the shoulders of her father, Phil Parlock, a supporter of President Bush (news - web sites), after a Bush-Cheney sign she and her father were holding was torn up by another person standing in the crowd that had gathered to greet Democratic vice presidential nominee Sen. John Edwards (news - web sites), D-N.C., Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, at the Tri-State Airport in Huntington, W.Va. At right, is Alex Parlock, 11, Sophia's brother. (AP Photo/Randy Snyder)

2. Why are we giving this more attention than the arrest of the gold star mom
A mother whose son was killed in Iraq was ARRESTED today at a rally for Laura Bush.

That strikes me as at least as shocking as this.

Step one: see dad's name in the photo caption
Step two: search google for name
Step three: school board article with candidate bio pops up.

Here's what I meant: HOW DARE YOU accuse me of wanting someone to go intimidate this man in any sort of way.

I am a professional historian...research is what I do...except, usually, finding the facts isn't so easy.

You are viewing me through some vile glasses. Jeez, take a break.

I'd hate to think you made it EASIER for somebody to find this guy and do something more stupid than what's already been done. The guy is an ass for taking his kid to a cock fight, BUT...

I'm sorry, I live in Phoenix where a man was shot to death shortly after 9/11 for wearing a turban. People are vicious - even some of the people on "our side." Oh, and think of the turmoil if somebody on "their side" could make it LOOK like our side did something bad to this man and/or his family.

Whether you found his address on the Internet, or not, IMOP, I don't think it's very nice to post it here.

I deleted it when I realized that the bio included the address.

HOWEVER, if you are so damned concerned, contact the newspaper that carries the bio and tellthem to take the man out of harm's way by removing his bio.

God knows, we don't want some demented person to look him up and harm him, as IF that were my intent.

Do you ALWAYS see the worst in people??? I think your posts are now bordering on obsessive. Let it GO.

"Here, Baby Girl, get up here and catch some bullets for me, eh?" Why take your kid to a confrontation with strangers? Especially now. This is sad and it'll probably get worse. Leave your kids home when you go to protest - anything.

Remember back in the day when the coal miners went on strike and the management opened fire on their picket line? Nobody knows what's coming down the pike. Leave the kids home.

15. It Is Sad That Someone Would Do That , But.
What was this fool thinking taking his children to a John Edwards rally waving a */cheney yourself sign.

He kind of reminds me of those terrorists who hide behind human shields of women and children for protection, cowards that they are.

If the man had a set of balls, he would have shown up in his jeans and favorite beer drinking shirt alone and waved his sign. Ah, but alas he doesn't appear to be a working stiff like those around him.
He looks more like the CEO of one of the local corporations that rape, cheat and steal off the back of the commoners.

18. AHA! This is this guy's second time to use a child as a prop:
Edited on Thu Sep-16-04 11:49 PM by jchild
July 4, 2004

The Phil Parlock family of Barboursville -- father, mother and 10 children -- likewise made the trip as a family. Rachel, 13, said it was the second time she had seen Bush.

"It was really good that we got the president on the 4th of July," she said.

Her older sister, Pam, 22, said she has seen Bush so many times she has lost count.

"You hope to get closer each time. Hopefully someday we’ll get a handshake," she said.

Pam Parlock said she be-longs to the Marshall Young Republicans, and she could have sat with them, but she wanted to be with her family, even if it cost her the handshake. She is a member of the West Virginia Army National Guard and was called to duty last year. The 1257th Transportation Co., to which she belongs, spent some time at West Point, but it never went overseas, she said.

Alex Parlock, 11, said he shook Bush’s hand four years ago during a campaign visit at Harris Riverfront Park in Huntington. Alex said he was sitting on his father’s shoulders and wearing a Bush mask when then-candidate Bush saw him and shook his hand.

up the sign? Has someone come forward or been identified? There is something about this that looks so staged. No one is near the little girl no one is looking at her if this happened a moment before the photograph was taken someone would have been looking in their general direction. The man is looking straight ahead, wouldn't he be looking at the person who ripped up the sign? I need more information.

54. Everyone seems to be missing the point
Phil used his child as a prop, to go to an Edwards event and promote Dubya. If Phil wanted to go BY HIMSELF to the event and speak his mind that's fine. Why were his children there? TO PROTECT HIM! He thought he could get away with doing whatever he wanted at the Edwards rally as long as he brought his kids with him.

It would be like going to an Oakland Raiders home game and sitting in the "Black Hole" (where the Raidres most rowdy fans sit) and wearing the opposing teams jersey..and bringing your kid along in their jersey. If Phil wanted to make a statement, and look for trouble, he should have had the balls to go by himself.

I don't condone the actions of whoever made the little girl cry, but Phil knowingly took his young children and unnecessarily put them in to a volatile situation. Despicable.

What in the hell is a * supporter doing taking his 3-year-old daughter to a Democratic rally????????????? Is this in lieu of a trip to the zoo? He is, in effect, **using her as a shield**.

What is the probability that your * - Cheney sigh is going to get torn up at a Democratic rally? Not that great, to say the least. What chance would a Kerry-Edwards sign have at a GOP rally? (Of course, Republican rallies are so screened and canned that they have been avoiding this kind of stuff.)

Bottom line -- this guy Parlock, with his toddler daughter on his shoulders -- was trolling for trouble. How could it be otherwise? What would he expect would happen? Unfortunately, it appears, or has been made to appear, that someone tore the sign.

Now, this crying little girl is the kind of image that the media eats up, and she'll be a poster-girl for BushCo. Parlock did his job well.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was a coordinated smear effort by the RNC, because the perfect poses were caught by camera. (but I don't see the pro Kerry people around paying attention to them) We all know how the Republicans have abused the openness of Kerry's rallies....

60. Yes he was stupid to bring her there, but...
some of you people are just MEAN. Just because the guy is for Bush/Cheney doesn't mean he's a bad father or a child abuser or anything of the sort.

If indeed a guy ripped her sign that was uncalled for, and only hurst our cause. I don't want any part of that.
