1. I think she just said that
MSNBC was carrying Kerry too. Just switched to see. In case some don't want to go with CNN.

3. I'm betting Bush's NG fixer, Gen. James has the audience planted with
antiKerry Bush supporters.

He sure had Bush's audience planted with enough of his campaign workers.

15. Very suspicious!
By the end of the speech ( I was watching online, from the CNN feed ) there's was VERY tepid response and little clapping. What is up with the military!? Are they indoctrinated to hate Dems!?!?

hi johnnyrocket ... welcome to DU !!!

here's my take on your very important question ... the Dems lost the military during the anti-Vietnam war protests ... the rift within the party between the anti-war Eugene McCarthy peace-niks and the LBJ and Hubert Humphrey war hawks caused a loss of support for democrats from many military people ... the damage Vietnam did to the Democrats was never clearer than the election of 1972 when George McGovern carried only Massachusetts ...

democrats were seen as spitting on veterans, selling out to North Vietnam (ala Jane Fonda) and being unpatriotic ... regardless of your views on the method of anti-war protests during Vietnam, Democrats have made very little progress winning back the "macho military" voters since that time ...

Kerry presents not only a threat to bush this year, but a much more dangerous longer-term threat ... if Democrats can convince middle-of-the-roaders that they are not only as tough as republicans but also better at preventing wars and using diplomacy, the republicans will be in real trouble ... machismo is the very soul of the republican message ...

Kerry is the veterans best friend ... bush is the defense industry's best friend ... let's hope that American military personnel come to understand the difference ...

17. Newshour showed more of the speech..
and show people WALKING out and heckling when Kerry brought up Bush's lies about Iraq. Kerry continued resolute, and YES, Kerry is the best bet for the military men and women....

lets hope the Bush propaganda machine doesn't distract from that fact.

11. They're being polite
I didn't see the Bush speech so I don't know if they were really receptive to him or not. I have no way of comparing.

14. Of course they did - if they actually let people hear what he has to say
about the War on Terror and Iraq, they won't be able to continue to dog him out for not clearly articulating his message on the War on Terror and Iraq.
