Here's why Bush and McCain want to shut down the 527's
http://www.opensecrets.org/527s/527cmtes.asp

Most of the big 527's are pro-Democrat and here are the numbers in detail. If anyone wants to know about the Payola in our gov't, they should check out this site...it's the best find I've come across aside from draftwesley.com and democraticunderground.com

Bush gets his money and support from the $2,000 plus crowd.

2. McCain/ Feingold & Shays/Meehan have gone to court
NOT to shut down 527s, but to enforce the rules. That means move on & other groups can still advertise, but cannot use unlimited donations.
There is a $5000 limit in the law.

Bush, wants whatever helps him. He was against campaign-finance, then he was for it...he flip-flopped.

4. Move on is not a 527, it's a PAC
targeting them is more of that slipsliding Bush logic--PACs are under very strict and well-audited funding rules.

6. Not exactly, as an organization, it acts as a PAC and a 527
This is right from the moveon.org website

The MoveOn family of organizations consists of three entities. MoveOn.org, a 501(c)(4) organization, primarily focuses on education and advocacy on important national issues. MoveOn PAC, a federal PAC, primarily helps members elect candidates who reflect our values. And MoveOn.org Voter Fund, a 527 organization, primarily educates voters on the positions, records, views, and qualifications of candidates for public office.

5. Well, perhaps not shut down but limit these Democrat bigspenders...
Personally, I think it's all about gaming the system and this is one thing that when it comes to dollars, 527's favor Kerry.

them and i expect when they run against Kerry in 08' we'll see plenty of 527's. run by republicans.

9. The Dems got a jump on the other side this election
but now they are funneling in huge amounts of money.

I think the grass roots proved this time around that we can compete if donations are limited.

7. A much stronger investment by Soros would be in permanent media
Anyone who has Mr. Soros' ear ought to be filling it with ideas about establishing or purchasing a news media giant. Building a brand new liberal news nework from scratch would be a huge -- and very expensive -- effort, though it would be entirely possible with the financial backing of Soros. A better plan would be to buy one of the existing networks; Preferably CNN. Perhaps Soros and and Ted Turner could form a joint investment team to buy back CNN from Time Warner. Put Turner back in charge of cleaning up his old news network, and watch a truly "fair and balanced" exposure of the Bush-Cheney-Rovian machine's corruption.
