Grover Norquist is sweating AWOL's chances in Ohio
A mole inside a meeting of Republicans Abroad has a voice recording of Grover Norquist sweating Bushs chances in Ohio.

Asked by meeting participants which battleground state was most important, Grover replies with no hesitation:

We HAVE to hold OHIO. We have an idiot, stupid, corrupt, dumb rotten republican Governor in that State... who has been busy looting the state, raising taxes, lying to the gun owners.

Ohio is the only state that in the nation that has lost jobs and isn't recovering because he's been beating the economy to death in the state. But he's not on the ballot, George Bush is on the state. It's not helpful, he should be taken out and horsewhipped.

The source is solid. The Ohio governor, of course is Bob Taft, who is as much a disaster for Ohio as Norquist states.
Bush can officially remain buddy buddy with Taft, yet one of the GOP's top surrogates, and prime director of the VRWC, is going around party meetings trashing the governor. Nice.

speaking of the devil, they're talking about Norquist on AAR right now

Pete Petersen mentions debating him and other supply siders, and how a third of americans have NO savings when they retire; talking about SS benefit reductions proposed by Greenspan and the other fascista

4. I'm in OH.
I am stunned by the amount of K/E material here.

This is not to say that I don't see a lot of B/C crap too, just that I didn't expect the amount of stuff I'm seeing for K/E. I work in a pretty wealthy area of the county (highest property values in the county) and it's solidly Repub. but there are a steadily growing number of yard signs for K/E. I went to the rally in Newark a couple of weeks ago and it was pretty big too.

7. Is Taft hated enough to fuel an anti-Bush protest vote?
I know his term's not up this year, but are people going to the polls as kind of a 'fuck you' to Taft?

This could work in our favor.

SCANDAL STIRS GOP SCRAMBLE
Hamilton County prosecutor leaving; Deters wants job
Published: Tuesday, September 14, 2004
NEWS 01A
By Joe Hallett, Alan Johnson and Mark Niquette
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
In a rare state-to-county political shuffle, Ohio Treasurer Joseph T. Deters yesterday filed as a write-in candidate for Hamilton County prosecutor in the Nov. 2 election.

Deters, 47, wants to replace fellow Republican Mike Allen, who withdrew yesterday as a candidate for re-election. Allen was politically damaged by his revelation of an extramarital affair with an employee.

But there's more to the GOP switch.

If Deters wins, he will serve as state treasurer until the end of the year then resign to become prosecutor on Jan. 3.

Sources indicated Gov. Bob Taft then would appoint Lt. Gov. Jennette Bradley to fill the remaining two years of Deters' term as treasurer -- which would create an opening for lieutenant governor.

<snip>
Mike Allen was B/C chairman for Southwest Ohio, and a moral- crusading GOP prosecutor, before he was caught boinking one of his (female) staff attorneys.

Make no mistake...the timing of this "monkey-move-up" (ie before the election) signifies that indictments are on the way. Rove must be very nervous...and probably had a hand in engineering this sleight of hand.

13. The thing is the average voter in Ohio has no idea what is going on
in Hamilton County, and could care less.

Bob Taft is a joke to most Buckeyes....even the diehards.

Too bad the gubernatorial election was not going on now...it would be fun to watch the Ohio Republican Party implode when 3 serious contenders start beating each other up...next year's primary ought to be as nasty as this election.

The fracture in the Ohio Republican party could work to some advantage.....but I gotta tell you Kerry needs to sweep the young and first time voters off their feet in Ohio...THEY are the ones registering to vote in record numbers, 18-30 years olds....and THEY will determine how Ohio goes as they are planning on voting.

Gotta scare them with the draft...it's real, not a game.

14. Norquist is an evil bastard
He hates Taft because he raised taxes, that it. He that asswad from Club for growth are making GOPers sign the no tax pledge and if they don't they get a big target on their backs.

15. Kerry should do everything to link W to Taft
They share plenty of personal attributes - both got where they are on their name and old money, both are notoriously inept governors.

Taft did much the same against Hagan as W is doing now - playing the "go with the devil you know" strategy...Taft refused to release his budget (or any details thereof) prior to the election, because "it wasn't due til February..." and baiting Hagan to come up with plans he could appropriate or trash. People got plenty pissed when they realized how bad the school cuts were gonna be (pay for play is now the rule for extracurriculars - about $250 per kid per activity around here).

Bush is (sort of) doing the same thing by making all the same promises he did in 2000, but not backing any of them up with concrete plans, nor explaining why he didn't fulfill them in the first 4 years. Plus, I'm sure I've heard of issues he's "not revealing" his plans on...

Ohio slogan for Kerry: "Don't Get Tafted!" (fooled into voting for someone who won't tell you what he's really going to do)

Columbus is a microcosm of the country and a test market for more than crummy food chains...nasty repug politics have been the rule there for some time. Kerry should stress that the only difference between Repub politics in Columbus and on the national level right now are the indictments...too bad there aren't more on the horizon...

16. "Our goal is to shrink the government to a size of a baby...
...that can then be drowned in the bathwater." - Grover Norquist.

In many ways, he's as dangerous as Rove, and has a longer reach into the Republican party. He's also a total nut-job.
