41% say that Bush military service less admirable than most...
Edited on Thu Sep-16-04 04:18 PM by WI_DEM
41% say that Bush's military service was less admirable than most young men of that era, while only 8% say it was more admirable and 46% say about the same.

on the other hand,

John Kerry's military service was judged as more admirable than most young men of that era by 26%, 23% (die hard Bushies, no doubt) say less admirable, and 45% say about the same.

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/

the good news is by 26-8 more people believe Kerry's service more admirable, while 41-23 say Bush's service was less admirable than Kerry's.

people are pretty clueless about war. No concept.

On edit: just notice the "of that era" part. I guess if you considered that most all of the guys "of that era" were in combat in Vietnam it might make a difference, though that isn't really the true case.

3. how the hell did bush get so many the same
though I must say impressed with 41%, here we have a man who believed in the Vietnam war yet used his father's connections to get a safe spot and he couldnt even do that. Then we got a man who enlisted not because he believed in the war but because he thought it was the right thing to do, Kerry is a brave guy, I really hope he can become to this generation what Kennedy was to his, and to be honest to me at least, he is, I don't feel though I like and admire Bill Clinton, I really must say I like Kerry better.

7. Not a surprise - 6 male memebers of my family were elligible
for the draft and service in Vietnam. Not one of them served in Vietnam. Each one used a different method in order to avoid service in Vietnam or stay out of the military altogether, including family influence.

Just one example of one boy's steps to avoid Vietnam: Enrolled in college and got a school deferrment. He flunked out so he got married in order to get another deferrment. The draft was still going on and he lived in a midwest state with low population so they were drafting married men. They decided to have a baby in order to get another deferrment. His wife didn't get pregnant immediately and although they were soon expecting the projected birth date was not soon enough. So they moved to another and he enlisted in the naval reserves. (used family influence to waive residency requirements) The reason he moved to another state to enlist was because the reserve units in that state were based in the Atlantic and not the Pacific ocean. He spent his active duty years in Spain and Italy.

Funny thing, now he is proud and brags about his sacrifice and service during Vietnam. Votes Republican, supports the war and loves George Bush. The other five men also vote Republican, support the war in Iraq and love George Bush. In other words, they all have selective memory.
