AP: Kerry Pulls Campaign Ads From Four States
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040922/ap_on_el_pr/kerry_bowing_out&e=1&ncid=

They are MO, AZ, AR, and LA.

The article says Kerry can't win without winning at least one. Huh? He most certainly can!

Rate it a 1, please.

1. I am fervently opposed
to this pattern of writing off states based on polls. Gore did the same damn thing in 2000.

I never thought we would win the other two.

4. I am, too! Surely there is money for
some kind of activist campaigning in those four states?!

7. Last weekend...
I was told by a campaign worker in the KC area, that Kerry is going to be increasing his campaign staff in MO in the coming weeks.

Maybe his strategy here is to focus on GOTV and save money by not running costly commercials. Kind of makes sense.

14. Going canvassing in Arkansas this weekend.
I hope the strategy is to focus more on person to person contact and not the "writing off" that others suggest. The race is tied here.

25. CA is working in AZ

San Diegans are taking bus trips to AX to register Yuma residents, which are primarily hispanic and Democratic. They leave from Downtown San Diego early Saturday morning and get back late Sunday. I'm not sure what organization is organizing and running the trips. I got something in an email, maybe from MoveOn.org?

Doesn't make sense.

Kerry's ahead in Arkansas according to a recent poll.

10. they're planning for something in Arkansas
I think Bill Clinton is going to make a surprise appearence there at a Kerry event and give a fiery speech. It'll be very emotional, and result in a nice bump in the polls :)

Cause Gore didn't win any of those states and he still won the election.

15. I don't think he's pulling out permanently,
just for now. Campaigns always do this. If and when there is an opportunity they will probably go back in, I would guess during the final two weeks. Remember, we are limited by federal funds, its not like the primaries. Also, it's possible that 527's are going to kick it up a notch in those states, and the Kerry camp knows this. They can't coordinate, but if one knows what the other is doing they can unofficially coordinate.

Also, at this point, the debates more than any advertising are going to determine how this race shakes out. Better to save the money for after the debates.

17. Campaigns cycle ads
Kerry is probably going off the air in some states for two days and going right back. Especially in MO and AR.

18. Could it be related to this story?
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x884681

Talks about loophole where the PARTY can be the one to run and pay for ads.

28. It's not really a "loophole"-
DNC and RNC can run ads.
MoveOn can run ANTI-Bush ads.

20. Perfect example
Of a report being spun (spinned?) by a Repuke talking head into writing about Kerry giving up on this state or that. Remember in 2000 when Rove had reporters actually believing that Bush intended to compete in California, that they truly believed they could win it, just to try and make Gore waste some time there? This is nothing new.

30. Pulling ads doesn't mean you write it off ....
Sometimes it means you're holding ads back for airing at a later date. Or changing ads. This is a game of strategy played with X amount of dollars. Just because certain ads are pulled, doesn't mean others won't replace them.

31. eh
We are so close in some of those states, and leading in AR. But most of that boost has been without any major spending in AR already, so maybe Kerry is thinking he can keep his lead while focusing resources in other more important states. ??

32. Arizona? The Zogby poll has Kerry down by only ONE point here!
And that's got me re-energized... I've got about 15 people here to go vote Kerry with me on November 2nd... NONE of which have ever voted before (including me!). So, all is not lost here. As the outlying cities around Phoenix continue to grow in size, the state will become more Democratic still
