Just finished reading Kevin Phillips' book
Here's some details from my blog.

Suffice to say, the Bushes and their cronies are far more evil than I had remembered.

You really need to understand their long-term involvement in destabilizing countries, in armaments, in finance to understand that the Iraq thing is such a silly lie.

Anybody trying to speak to an undecided voter needs to know what's in this book- furthermore, Phillips is as moderate as they come.

7. True story - I watched Kevin Phillips on TV the other night,
was impressed with what he had to say so I went to my local, handy-dandy library to check the book out for my perusal. One copy, checked out, overdue by five-six months! It is looking grim. Appears my education will remain incomplete. My friendly librarian turned the computer screen around and show me where they had call this guy at least six different times and have sent him notices at least once a week for the whole time it has been past due. No book. He is the first and only person to have checked out this particular copy of this book (library only has one).

She said, "I don't think this guy is going to return this book." Since she was so helpful in letting me see the attempts to get this book back, I, also, got a gander on who is such a slow reader. It is the chairman of the local chapter of the GOP. Told her she wasn't getting that book back.

By now, there is a small crowd round the counter to check out and return books. At least 7-8 people with some kids thrown in. I made sure that everyone in line knew that the copy of the book I was "just dying" to read is being held hostage by a local GOP thug. "Heard the book was really good, but what could be in there that the local GOP didn't want people reading?" Before it was all over, they had five new names added to the wait list for this book. Anytime they get over four, the library orders extra copies or gets them it intra-library loan.

Nothing earth shattering but funny. The repug has really got people wondering why the book hasn't been returned. One gentleman told me that he was on the way to Barnes & Noble for a copy. Took my phone number, if I still don't have the book by the time he is through reading it he will pass it on to me!

We are going to win this election with "one mini riot in the library" at a time!

why I never got to see Gwynne Dyer's "Ignorant Armies."

on to a friend who is a Librarian in my town. He took bush's picture down from the Library about two years ago!

12. typical gop, if they hide it it doesn't exist.
funny story about Phillips, when his book first came out he was on washington journal one morning on cspan, so they start taking calls after awhile. this woman calls in on the bush line and she so pissed at him, she hasnt read the mind you and she says.."how can you say these things about Bush, you're a republican!! you hate Bush don't you?!" Now she's almost screaming and he sits there cool as a cucumber and says..."No, i don't care for any of the Bush's, no i don't.", at this point she goes mental and he's still sitting there all calm. I swear to God is wass one of the funniest things i've ever seen on cspan.

21. I stand as much chance of getting a letter printed n the local
paper about this guy as I do of winning the Irish Sweepstakes without purchasing a ticket! The local rag is not exactly brimming over with journalistic integrity.

I am in the section on the religious right. I would be finished with it by now if i didn't spend so much time on DU. I recommend this book also. I might even pick up "Wealth and Democracy" by him.

5. It gets even better after that...
Amazing how connected these guys are.

And when you know what's there, as I've said, you understand why Iraq happened.

plus Bush using code words in speechs that the fundies can pick up on and that we seculars or non-fundies miss (except for the obvious exceptions like "crusade"). fucking whackos. but, yes, in the end its all about money.

3. one thing Phillips points out that is a shock - no one had done a
biography on GHWBush at any time during his political career. The only bio done was by Read My Lips, himself, for campaign purposes.

No one has lifted up the slippery, slimy rock this family exists under - until now.

4. Would they put somebody like this in charge? Is there any truth
to this?? They are talking about it on AAR right now... criminy... there ain't gonna be no peace in Iraq if this is true...

WASHINGTON: The US media has surprisingly failed to pick up the shocking disclosure by Sydney Morning Herald, Australia’s leading newspaper, that the Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi personally executed six suspected insurgents in a Baghdad police station.

6. Wonderful book!
So much info I never had a clue about! Their history is amazing & most Americans - even dems - are clueless about it.

I'd buy it for my repub mother, but she would just toss it. Maybe I should buy it for her anyway & take the chance that she would be just a tiny bit curious & read a little bit. I've blown $25 on sillier stuff.

9. Tell her...
He wrote a book about the "emerging Republican majority."

The nice thing about Phillips' book is that for someone undecided, the first 100 pages or so appear to be totally "conventional wisdom."

Phillips' style is not incendiary- the undecided reader is like the frog in the kettle, and the damning information is carefully metered out.

14. Loved it and it makes a great reference
book for a lot of the others. I have Bob Graham's book but haven't started it yet. I've started Kitty Kelley's books and it is amusing that a lot of her info is in "American Dynasty Have you heard anyone call Phillips a flake - I don't think so, but they're sure going after Kitty
