Because the American media has utterly failed to do their job.
And what is their job? It is to speak truth to power and to monitor those in power. No way Bush would still be leading in the polls on the "handling the war on terrorism" if our media was not so lazy, compliant and corrupt.
It is heartening to see John Kerry take Bush head on on this utterly false and media created impression. The media fell in love with "Dubya on the debris pile"--even John McCain agrees that this is the source of Dubya's creds on terrorism.
How pathetic! Bush betrayed the memory of those murdered on 9/11 by Osama bin Laden by turning away from capturing Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda and using 9/11 to pursue his catastrophic war in Iraq. It is not a sign of strong leadership; it is a sign of corrupt and failed leadership.
The media will not and, perhaps cannot, say this. They have drunk the kool-aid. But we have not, and John Kerry has not. He must continue to make the case or we will all lose in November, including what remains of our tattered democracy.
