Ex-Soviet Leader Gorbachev Condemns Iraq War, Says It 'Undermined' International Law

The Associated Press

LONDON Sept. 23, 2004 — Former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev on Thursday condemned the U.S.-led campaign toward war in Iraq as an affront to democracy, saying it undermined international law.

"I regard the invasion of Iraq as undermining international law and undermining democracy because millions of people spoke out against it," said the Nobel Peace Prize laureate during a visit to London. He added the war "was done without the mandate of the U.N. Security Council."

5. I hope Putin is paying attention to Gorby.
I'm so afraid that our coWard-in-chief has lowered the standard for other countries to follow. Pre-emptive wars should be condemned, unless we prefer a lawless world.

6. I think he was in Rome at the Interdependence Day meetings.
He was listed among the guests. It got NO publicity here. Since Dean was invited as a guest, I posted about it. There was a write-up at Media Channel but that is all.
