Who is voting for Bush?
Here is a break down of who I think is voting for Bush.

1) His base, which makes up about 35-40% of all voters.
2) Stupid Gore voters that think Bush is the only person in the world that can protect them.
3) Homophobes against gay marriage, Vets, and others that are to stupid to listen to anything but Bush soundbites.

Who am I missing? My opinion is that Kerry will never get groups 1 and 3. It should be easier for him to get those from the second group... especially considering how the economy and Iraq have been going lately.

What should influence voters against Bush?

1) The economy, which is on the way down again. This is not good news, but it should at least influence those that were voting for Bush.
2) The war in Iraq, which is getting much worse.
3) Terrorism.

I think many on here are right when they say that many Gore voters, independants, and undecided Democrats will eventually turn towards Kerry.

Also, the only real issue Kerry needs to improve on is terrorism. If he can convince only 10-20% of those leaning toward Bush he should win easily.

1. Seeing how 1 and 3 are the same that narrows his lead down.

2. I disagree.
Like it or not, there are many vets that were undecided before the Swift Liars.

3. Bush's base is not 35% to 40% of the voters, it's more like...
...15% to 20%. The rest he appeals to by stroking their biases, prejudices, fears, greed and just plain ignorance. Fortunately for Bush and the republican party, there are enough voters out there with whom one or all of these resonates.

17. Prejudices

are way up there on the top of the list.

The silent voice of Bush tells his expanded base, "we will protect you from all of those bad people."

People that are in jail(not those friends that need to be there like Cheney and Kenny Lay)
People with Aids
Gays
Blacks
Muslims
Non Born Again Christians and Jews
Those Hollywood kind like Michael Jackson and Barbra
Those leaders who dare to speak out like Kennedy, Sheila Jackson Lee
and now Dan Rather
Terrorists that are Brown in hue, but not Timothy McVeigh

Those items mentioned probably account for the silent votes of + 20%

5. People who have been hurt by his policies but because . . .
he states that he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior, they overlook everything else about him, most of all, the fact that he does not act Christian like in the least.

Whatever happened to actions speak louder than words?

6. Two men in my office keep saying they vote Bush because of what
Cinton did. Go figure!?

Bush doesn't care about the American people. (Please read the thread here entitled The Unfeeling President - it's excellent!)

22. Now that is just plain stupid!
What Clinton did, didn't hurt anyone save for himself, his wife and daughter. What bush* is doing pretty much affects everyone in the World! And not in a positive way!

7. Jobs, economy, health care
That is where every Democratic candidate needs to hammer the Republicans this year, because that is where they can win. The war in Iraq, if handled properly, can help as well.

9. Fundies
a) Fundies.

b) Ignorant or uninformed people who do not pay attention to current affairs most of the time and are taken in by the White House spin and fear mongering.

c) Bigots of various types.

No hope for us with group A or C, but luckily B is the biggest group and large chunks of these people just need to pay just bit of attention, think about things just a little bit and will wake up and look for alternative to Bush.

10. I've run into people online who seem to support Bush..
because they voted for him in 2000. They take any criticism of him in a personal way: if you say he is stupid, you mean they are stupid. I think some of them just don't want to admit that they screwed up last time.

On the other hand, while many of them seem to have 'liberal' views on things like gay marriage or abortion being a woman's own choice,
many of them at the same time are racial/ethnic bigots or are people who make $$ in some way in the gun trade. It's a bit bizarre to have someone who self-categorizes herself as a Wiccan think that Bush is the best President we have ever had!

18. hehe...
My guess is 11 points nationally, and 100 points EC. Kerry has just started to fight. By the time he's done with him, the old school conservatives will have abandoned Chimpy after considering his fiscal recklessness. Even those 12% who think they are the richest 2% will mostly turn, because giving back a tax cut is fine for them in exchange for a safer, more reputable America.

19. Sounds good
I think we've got to get everyone in agreement at the U.N., especially countries like France and Germany, whenever we have these kinds of problems with other countries.

20. Yeah
There's a good proportion of the richest 2% that travel overseas and see what a hachet job Chimpy has done to America's reputation. Somehow I can't believe Bush even has 40% of the vote right now.
