Republicans urge their supporters to vote early!
For some reason I am on an email list for supporters of Republican senators. This misconception on the part of the RNC appears to date from the time I wrote a thank-you note to Senator McCain for declining to smear John Kerry. I could remove myself from their list but why miss all the interesting news? I even got a special invitation to the "Tom Daschle Retirement Party" at the convention. (I didn't attend.)

Anyway, this is the latest message I received in my in-box. Very fishy, ain't it?

Dear Republican Supporter,

As Election Day 2004 approaches, the most important action we can take to ensure our Republican victory is to vote. If you know that you will be out of town or unable to cast a vote at the polls on November 2nd, I urge you to exercise your right to vote absentee. Likewise, if your state and county offer you the opportunity to vote early, I encourage you to take advantage of it.

Voting early or casting an absentee ballot can be easy — just click on this web site to learn more: www.voterepublicansenate2004.com.

The site is user-friendly and provides helpful information about

* Voting by absentee ballot
* Voting early
* Applying for absentee ballots.

The website also includes links to your state election authorities along with important deadlines.

Please take a moment right now and visit www.voterepublicansenate2004.com. Then, take action by voting as soon as possible to ensure you exercise your most fundamental freedom as an American.

Please forward this email to your family, friends, and coworkers so that more Americans are aware of their absentee and early voting options. Thank you for your support of President Bush and the Republican Senate candidates.

Onward to victory!

Sincerely,

Senator George Allen
Chairman, NRSC

1. Once your vote is cast, you can't change your mind, no matter what
happens, or what BS is uncovered. I suspect this is also the reason they were urging Pubs to vote via absentee. They have to be postmarked a certain # of days before election day. Helps insure voters can't change their mind at the last minute.

7. Democrats do this too though
In Iowa the Democratic Party is doing a sweep this weekend to pick up thousands of absentee ballots that were mailed out today. In the county I lived in they're trying to get 300 Dems to pick up ballots from people this weekend.

2. They are up to no good as usual........... they probably plan to a dirty
bomb as their october surprise in a "blue state". Probably California or New York due to number of electors.

If that happens, what will you do?!!!!!!!

3. Let's just assume that everyone who could vote, that is who is...
...registered to vote, votes by absentee ballot before November 2, what would happen across the country?

Table 1. Reported Voting and Registration, by Sex and Single Years of Age: November 2002 (Numbers are in thousands)

Total 18 years and over..............210,421 100.0%
Total who are registered.............128,154 60.9%
Total who are not registered......... 82,267 39.1%
Total who actually voted............. 88,903 42.3%
Total who did not vote...............121,517 57.7%

US citizens who are registered.......128,154 60.9%
US citizens who are not registered... 64,502 30.7%
Not US citizens...................... 17,765 8.4%

Now imagine if you can 100 million votes coming in by abscentee ballot? How would these be processed? How long would it take to count? How many people would it take to count these votes?

4. We should be voting early, too.
Somewhere I heard that 1000 WWII veterans die every week.

How do you suppose that translates into the death rate for the whole country?

While we're looking at 70,000 ex-patriots in Australia, they can lock in hundreds of thousands of votes of people now who, actuarially speaking, will die before election day.

I guess you never know if you're going to have the flu, break your leg, be unconscious or be suddenly called out of town - - maybe to a parent's bedside.

I think it makes sense for US to vote early, too. For the same reasons.

Besides, if you vote early, you are free to be a poll watcher, or phone banker or voter driver all day on Nov. 2.

6. In many states though if a person dies before election day
and has voted by absentee that vote does not count.

9. Im sorry, but in a country where thousands voted
both in New York and then voted in Florida, and this fact is just coming out four years later; I really don't think Grandpa Joe's death the week before the election is going to be either noted or contested.

Once the election is called for Kerry or for Bush, you can be sure they are not going to call it back because of a few deaths - - any more than they called it back for 90,000 ballots found in dumpsters.

I think the Republicans have noticed a loophole that they are going to exploit, and I think if they're going to do it, we should, too.

After all, it's not the voter's fault (or fraud) if election officials don't get it right.

I think that's what the Republicans are counting on.

8. Actually voting early is a bad thing
What we need to do is not vote early; but have all democrats wait till the last two days to vote. Reason behind this logic is if we vote early then republicans will say we are going to loose and send out more storm troops to try and vote. The ones who are not voting for Bush might come out and vote for Bush just to protect the republican party. By waiting for the last two days for all democrats to vote it it creates a over confidences for Republicans. Then we hit them hard before they have a time to react or play dirty.

5. Not a big deal. Certainly nothing to worry about.
Both parties want their voters out early for reasons others in this thread have eloquently stated.

Our county Democratic Party is encouraging everybody to vote early or by absentee ballot for the same reasons, and because that makes us available to volunteer on Nov. 2nd to give rides to the polls and to check voter rolls to see who has and has not shown up to vote on Election Day.

Early voting in North Carolina begins Thursday, October 14th. Get a move on!

10. I will vote early
This goes for either side. I will be voting early as I can vote on Saturday where I live. It's close, very convenient, and I won't have to fight crowds or traffic on election day. Also, I could be detained on election day by weather, having to stay late at work, car repair, etc and not to get to vote.

I, personally, don't think this is all that sinister. They want all their votes out and voting early is an easy way to do that. Dems have the same opportunities.
