Republicans Not Afraid To Fight Dirty
In Vermont and New Hampshire, state Republicans are not afraid to fight dirty. Last time around it was the New Hampshire Republican Party jamming phone lines during Democratic efforts to get out the vote (for which Chuck McGee, former Director of the NH Republican Party, faces federal charges and possible jail time). In 1996 the Vermont Republicans sent out false letters in Democratic candidate Gerry Gossens' name before the primary, and Gossens lost by only 91 votes.

After the "success" of the fraudulent letter-writing strategy, both Vermont and New Hampshire Republicans are at it again. Last week in NH the Republicans sent out a letter with John Lynch's forged signature (another federal offence), and in VT they sent out postcards which stated that candidate Harold Giard is against a woman's right to choose. This is clearly not the case, per Giard's own words: "Reproductive decisions are between a woman and her doctor. The government has no role in such issues."

We might also consider another distasteful fact. Ruthless politics are a longstanding New Hampshire tradition. We dance around it — but New Hampshire has long been a hot bed of right wing abuses. It's like McCarthyism never quite left the Granite State. Historically speaking, this is largely due to the friendship of Joseph McCarthy himself and the late William Loeb, longtime publisher of the Manchester Union Leader. Long after McCarthy fell from grace and drank himself to death, Loeb kept the drumbeat of the extreme right going in his front page editorials, slanted news stories and manipulative headlines....."

The Dems and GOP would meet at the city Hall or the Court House on the same Friday night!

Seems there's a tradition for the GOP to go dirty in VT.

2. I like these lines from your links
When you make a wrong turn in traffic, life, or war, you don't keep on going. You stop, acknowledge that you were wrong, and do what it takes to get back on track. As women know, a man who admits that is rare indeed, and worth electing to the presidency.

For Kerry, the ghost of Howard Dean, presidential candidate, speaks truth. The war with Iraq was a mistake, and it is making this country -- and the world -- less secure. Acknowledging that is a sign of leadership."

good stuff!

3. Repukes here are truly evil
They pulled out all stops to defeat Jeanne Shaheen against Sununu in the Senate race of 2002, jamming Democratic GOTV phone lines. Nothing happens because the Manchester Useless Misleader is GOP through and through and the Democratic party here is so impotent.

8. In my opinion,
There must never again be a "kiss and make up" after an election, as there usually is. These people must be prosecuted from now 'til doomsday, if necessary. And another thing, while my ranter is still full of gas, this coddling of "moderate" thugs has to stop! People like McCain and Powell are NOT honorable but misguided! If they are unwilling to out and condemn the evil shennannigans going on in their midst, they are just as guilty as the direct perpetrators, and must be held accountable. Damn them all!
