Rummy says elections ok if people arent allowed to vote!!!
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&e=1&u=/ap/20040924/ap_on_go_pr_wh/us_iraq

Rumsfeld was asked by a Senate committee how U.N.-supervised elections could be held if Fallujah and other restive cities remained in revolt.

"Let's say you tried to have an election and you could have it in three-quarters or four-fifths of the country — in some places you couldn't because the violence was too great," Rumsfeld said. "So be it. Nothing's perfect in life. You have an election that's not quite perfect. Is it better than not having an election? You bet."

1. Is it better than not having an election?<<
It's almost as good as not being fired, retired, or put in jail I am sure.... from his perspective....

It's certainly better than having to go through an impeachment process for illegally taking a country to war and thumbing your nose at the rest of the world...... surely it is.

2. Even if they can't vote in Baghdad?!
This is one of the most stupid BushCo efforts to cover their asses I've seen.

4. Rumsferatu shows his respect for democracy.
So suppose there's on o' them Terra Lerts on the morning of Nov. 2 in some randomly selected states like NY and CA, and all those Democrats just can't get to the polls because they thought stuff was going to blow up. Or maybe stuff actually did blow up (MIHOP? Naaaww.). Rummy would just chuckle and say, "So be it. Nothing's perfect in life. You have an election that's not quite perfect. Is it better than not having an election? You bet."

7. Isnt that the way we had elections until 1965?
Or did we just make sure 3/5 of the population couldn't vote. I am mad again.

When is this going to stop. We need the observers making sure that there is no bullshit at the ballot box.

i'm just mad

9. Nothing's Perfect!
Hey, it works for American elections, right?

:puke:

I think we all know about this administration's great respect for the process of democratic elections....

We can just get an Iraqi court to appoint someone, anyways.

11. If I was a Senator listening to this crap
I would of laughed in Rummy's face and asked him to repeat his answer again also does he think such actions would pass in the US you know the one that's trying to 'bring democracy' at the end of a gun to the Iraqi people.

Tell you who's good at making people like Rummy look the fool that's in the Senate and that's Clinton and Edwards. Did I miss where the reporter told the reader what Senate Committee it was Rummy testified too? I admit it, I quickly scanned the article so I could of missed it ;)

Check this out :eyes: it's typical Rummy bs answers.....I can hear Al Franken doing this right now.
You think Rummy suffers dementia? Naaa, he's just whacked

<snip>Asked later by reporters to elaborate, Rumsfeld said: "Is it dangerous? You bet. Will there be elections? I think so. Might there be some portion of the country where the terrorists decide they're going to mess things up? Possibly. Does that mean that there won't be elections? No." </snip>

It's typical bs I am so sick of these fascists 'have I mentioned lately how much I hate these people' thanks Malloy

12. somehow that 'no taxation without representation'
thing keeps running through my mind. If Baghdad doesn't get to vote, do they still have to abide by the decisions?

13. A symbolic victory is all they care about.
Just like the turn over of sovereignty. It is in name only but it is something they can claim as a victory and because Americans have such a short term memory we accept it.

They will do the same thing with the Iraqi election. Even though it is symbolic and only the hand picked favorites of the US will get elected W* will call it a great accomplishment. The sad thing is that the Repukes will eat it up.
