President Bush’s Ratings Slip to Lowest Level of His Presidency, According to Latest Harris Poll

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – September 17, 2004 – President Bush’s ratings have slipped to 45 percent positive and 54 percent negative, the lowest ratings of his presidency, according to a new Harris Poll. These numbers compare to 50 percent positive, 49 percent negative in June and 48 percent positive, 51 percent negative in August. This downward trend no doubt helps to explain why the lead which the president enjoyed over Senator Kerry immediately after the Republican convention in New York – the so-called “convention bounce” – has now disappeared.

2. I thought the lowest was when he entered office pre-9/11. The press
was suggesting he wasn't doing anything but taking vacations. That Bush sure stays the course, the vacation president! Maybe Kerry just needs to promise the American public that he'll actually work a 40 hour week and take 2 weeks vacation like the rest of us!

3. I think this shows that if Kerry could get going and hammer Bush
hard like he is starting to try, we need the media to get this out everyday but can't control them, he would win without a doubt. It is obvious that the American Public wants to vote for someone other than Bush. It is up to the Dems.

5. YAY!
This is great news. Let's just hope that Bush's approval rating continues to slide downward.

7. ARKANSAS, NEW HAMPSHIRE
I just cannot figure this out. According to the latest polls Bush leads Kerry in Arkansas only by two points. But the Kerry campaign doesn't seem to be interested in this state while he never went there. I really think that he can win this state so he at least should show himself there once ! Its also very close in New Hampshire and just like Arkansas Kerry has not been there neither. Is the Kerry campaign giving up those state or what? I reckon that we should not give up on any state where the polls are showing a close race. I reckon if we can win Nevada, Arizona, Arkansas, New Mexico, New Hampshire and PA the withe house will be ours again. So people in those states to what ever it takes to stop the Republican evil ! }(

9. There was a post yesterday....
(sorry no link) that said the Kerry campaign was going to suspend advertising in Arkansas (and three other swing states) for only a week, then resume. Originally the word was he was completely abandoning those states for the rest of the campaign, but someone came back and said it would be only for a week.

8. THIS is the KEY number!
I saw a Clinton pollster demonstrate, on C-Span, that incumbent approval rating ALWAYS matches the final vote tally. Whenever there's an incumbent in the race then the only number to look at is job approval. This pollster demonstrated by laying approval charts over vote tally charts and they matched perfectly, while the incumbent vs candidate polling numbers did NOT match the final tally. He demonstrated this for elections going back to Johnson, IIRC.
