30. As a non-American I'm puzzled. .How can they not see the truth?
It absolutely blows my mind that any thinking American would want to continue with this incompetant, uninformed, inflexible, moron who is hated by most of the rest of the world and is harming your standing in the world because of his disastrous war on Iraq.....Despite what you hear on your TV we do no hate Americans. We differentiate between the people and the wacko president...I don't get it...Surely even the partisan Republicans can see what he has wrought????

8. Greed.
Bush policies may be OK for some individuals, but his policies are disaterous for ther society in general. For example: A school voucher may be good for an individual who can afford to supplement it and send their child to a good school--but the result of many people using school vouchers would be to destroy our public school systems--making an affordable education out of reach of most people. But Bush supporters either cannot see this--or in their greed and shortsightedness they do not care.

the rich types usually aren't anti choice or anti gay but they benefit from the fiscal policies so they support Bush.

the cultural issues people are usually those who tend to be hurt financially by the republicans but because of issues like abortion, gay rights, etc which they tend to oppose they support republicans.

13. Marriage Made in Heaven
It's an unholy alliance of zealous religious extremists and corporate investor-class elites.

The fact they accuse Dem's of being elist is a fine irony. There's no one more elitist than the Wall Street investment crowd. Yet they've snowed the religious Right into their camp.

Craven, disgusting, amoral. And effective. So far.

Edited on Sat Sep-25-04 01:37 AM by Ladyhawk
In my immediate family is just such an unholy alliance of a zealous religious extremist (my mother) and someone who would like to be a corporate investor-class elitist (my brother). My mother's god is a crazy fellow who hates gays, abortionists and anyone who doesn't accept Jesus as personal savior and Lord. My brother's god is greed. His bible is Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged. His prophet is Rush Limbaugh.

I round out the nuclear family by saying "no thank you" to biblegod and greedgod. My mother and brother get along just fine in their unholy alliance, even though my brother is technically an atheist. In the meantime, I catch holy hell for being honest about my religious beliefs (atheist) and political beliefs (liberal).

I keep wondering if I should experiment with ways to drive a wedge between those worshipping biblegod and those worshipping greedgod. If I could do it on a small scale, it might tell us how to do it on the large scale.

Somehow, that feels wrong. But I'm so tired being on the outside while the greedy and ultra-religious worship Bush and decide I must be completely crazy for opposing the war in Iraq and voting Dem. Last October I was even deemed "demon-possessed." I'm tired of taking the heat in this family!!!!!!!!!!!!

22. uninformed and lazy Americans
Most Americans do not do any research regarding the candidates stances or how it will impact them. They rely on media sound bites.

That is why the Americans voting for Bushco are doing so because they are not doing their homework on this guy.

If the Bush cartel wins.. I will be on my "told you so" movement to those who voted for Bushco that the economy has gone to shit, environment to shit and the Iraq war was illegal because THEY voted for this lie of an administration. I will inform any Bush voter that if the draft comes that THEY are responsible for not researching the candidates and lazily voting for Bushco. If a draft is enacted that their young children have to be enlisted I will say.. you chose not to do any research about your chosen candidate.. alas.. this is the outcome. The blame is on you and your vote for the Bush cartel.

Second of all, Kerry isn't going to send your older children to die in some hell-hole like Iran. Third of all, why should I care more about your spoiled snot-nosed kids than any one else in this country? Or maybe I'm just listening to too much non-Air America talk radio cause I don't get it! Yes, I am talking about the Democratic/urban vs. rethuglikkkan/rural dichotomy, and though it is by no means absolute, I get it all the time.

I'm a Chicagoan who goes to college in rural freeptard Missouri. I'm sick of having all these country freeper bumpkins telling me about the war on terra and 9/11 when my mother went to work at O'Hare on that fateful day.

War on terra? Really? Then why is airport security still a joke? Why am I aware of a loophole in airport security wide enough to taxi a friggin 747 through?

Yeah, you freeptards that have never seen an international airport can keep it right up.:eyes:

we must seriously study and figure out so we can adapt and evolve our strategy to develop winning tactics.

What worries me is that anymore it all comes down to packaging, charisma and selling. TV is having a tremendous impact on this whole process in mainly terrible ways.

We don't have to become like the repugs, but learn to fight like them.

27. There are a lot of people who WILL NOT SEE
Just like *. They will believe whatever they want to believe, and wishing alone will make things so.

Don't bother them with the facts. All they care about is their own little world and will vote for anyone who they think will keep it on life support until they're gone. After that it's someone else's problem.

That's type number one. Type number two may not see any difference between the candidates, or may be convinced by overwhelming media bias that Kerry is too negative, dishonest, vague, and so on.

These are the hardcore know-nothings, and it's a waste to try to change their minds. The undecideds are much more open to persuasion.

32. A TRULY BRILLIANT question..and here is why.
I am glad you asked that. Its a very fundamental question and I am surprised not too many people ask.

Your question could as well be "Why are certain humans Republicans?".
I assume they are humans, because on the outside most meet the physical description of humans.

I am going to answer your question in short. The large majority of people who support Bush do so because they are Republicans. Its as simple as that. It has nothing to do with his policies. Its just about ego.

But why are some people such fanatical supporters? Now that, comes from a feeling of shame and embarrasment that this President has caused them to feel deep within themselves for so long. That is a feeling that even *they*, are barely aware of. It all started with the fraudulent theft of the 2000 election. After 8 glorious years of Clinton comes this moron who can't even finish a sentence right. And then he looses the popular vote. His (il)legitimacy casts a huge shadow over his presidency and they live with that guilt and shame for the next 8 months. And then 9/11 happens despite the TOUGH Republicans holding office at the time, and their leader continues to commit one blunder after another including allowing its chief perpetrator to get away, till we now find ourselves in a quagmire in a foreign hostile land, no end in sight. Ask yourselves- whats this President's net achievement in the last 4 years? Another embarrasing question.

So what are Republicans to do ? They have been embarrased, humiliated and shamed repeatedly in front of the world by this man and his administration. So they do what comes naturally. In an effort to suppress those feelings they become fanatical supporters aggressively rallying behind their leader. And in their minds they conjure up an image of everything he is NOT - a strong charismatic leader, who knows exactly what he is doing , who does what he says (and vice versa) and someone leading the world to victory in the war against terror.

In short, by supporting Bush the Republicans are able to hide from reality and remain (relatively) happy.

40. "Pro-life" hypocrites
Edited on Sat Sep-25-04 02:08 AM by high density
Judy Woodruff (ugh) did a piece on the "Evangelical Christian vote" and interviewed some folks about the reason(s) why they were voting for a specific candidate. Basically it all went down to the fact that Bush is anti-choice when it comes abortion and Kerry is not. (Some actually think that Kerry is "pro-abortion," but that's not true.) "Vote values," the Pastor of the congregation said. Gay marriage was also a big concern, as if these people were worried that with John Kerry as president they were going to be forced into a homosexual relationship.

I'm Catholic, though I haven't been a practicing one for a few years now. I like some things that the church stands for, such as their great charity work, but I also disagree with them on many social issues. I am very concerned that people of faith could vote for an incumbent pResident who has started a war based on lies that thousands have died in, all under the banner of "it's a different world after 9/11" or "a higher power told me to do it."

I just can't understand the logic of "abortions are bad and we must make them illegal by electing a President who agrees, but if the candidate also has a record of creating wars based on lies, well... that's a necessary evil to stop abortions." I get depressed just thinking about it. Making abortions illegal is not going to stop them, however it will definitely make them less safe. I simply see no reason to bring babies into this world that are not wanted.

42. Why not?
When you ask a question like that, there can be a thousand reasons. I will note a few:

1) They vote for Bush because, no matter what the important issues might be, the are Republicans and they always vote that way. They may vote this way because it is a family tradition. They are loyal!

2) They extend their religious beliefs way out, beyond the spiritual realm, and into the realm of politics and practical matters on Earth. They cannot discern between the two, nor will they. So, if some leader says this or that, they tend to automatically believe in, and vote for, what they are told to with little, if any, debate on their part. They believe what they are told, and whomever gets to tell them what to believe in the best way, wins. No thought about it! They do not need a debate, just consolation.

3) Then, there are those who see some sort of personal gain = greed. They imagine an odd one-up-man's ship from a party they endorse. They are usually not doing so very well currently, and hope to ride the tail of the winners to some imagined power and prominence -- read: Nazi Party. They are looking for a vicarious win in the situation and they don't really care about trivial issues, values, and logic ... things like civil liberties and such. They know that the winners get perks and rights that the average loser will not. They lust for being on the winning side and they may even see the nefarious intents behind it.

4) They are sincere, realistic, but they only get their news and information from the corporate mass media that they, like their parents before them, trust. They cannot bring themselves to see that their news is bought and paid for. They do not want to question the source and object to its veracity. To do so would bring quesiton to many institutions that they have bulit their lives around.

Now, how can you blame people for that? You can only blame yourself in an equation where you know, but they do not! I love the freepers and the ignorant only because it is not really their fault. I only hate and admonish those who, in my best estimation, really KNOW what is going on.

Welcome to the INFO wars!

43. What all of you are saying and....
Republican strategists have used the media to portray liberals as pot smoking counter-culture hippies who hate America. Additionally, all the great social programs and government regulations that protect everyone (EPA, OSHA, FDIC, SEC, FDA, Social Security, Medicare, etc.) are distilled into one issue: welfare. It has worked brilliantly. So much so that people are willing to vote against their own interests.

44. Media and marketing

They don't, they're led to believe they do through clever marketing and mass media.

Look at how everyone was sold on the Iraq war. It's about how you get your message out and repeating it over and over and over until it sticks.

Read this thesis, you'll understand.

For those with the time it's well worth the reading. You'll really begin to understand how political and public opinion becomes influenced and shifted after reading this work. Powerful stuff. Read it! This is not a partisan piece or someone grinding an axe. This is some really good analysis. You can just look at the graphs and skim the text to get a feel for how this came about.

Digby's blog has a thread this morning about Andrea Mitchell(Mrs Greenspan) going on about chimpie being a popular president. It seems to be chimpie is popular most with the beltway whores, and that seems so illogical to me. The Cokie Roberts, the Andrea Mitchells, the Fat Tim Russerts and the regulars on tweety's show have been making gogo eyes at chimpie since 2000. For the life of me, I can't see what they see. What in the world could be in the talking points that get chimpie to the sucessful president catagory? I also think I will go to my grave not knowing the answer to this question.
