3. Kerry is on the upswing
The only thing you can tell for sure is that Kerry is on the upswing. There's too much disagreement between the polls to even take the middle as a likely guess. They're just not used to polling an electorate where most of the electorate doesn't particularly care for either candidate, but there's a good deal of people on the extreme of support.

Check this out -

Sept 9, 1996
Clinton 60%/31% approve disapprove

Sept 5, 2004
Bush 52%/46%

Clinton was 23 points ahead of where Bush is in approval.

Yet Clinton only got 49% of the vote. And there was Dole and Perot running against him.

Bush is a sitting duck, soon to be a lame duck if Kerry plays it right. And I think he has the situation totally under control.

5. Craziness like "so and so will ban Bibles" has been with us. . .
during election campaigns since the beginning of our nation's history. Thomas Jefferson was accused of wanting to confiscate Bibles if elected (Saul Padover, Jefferson: A Great American's Life and Ideas).

Google "campaign dirty tricks" and see what you might find. As a journalism student years ago, the funniest stories I heard were out of rural Florida, where one candidate is said to have castigated his opponent because he "has a brother who's a homo sapien, and a sister who's a thespian in New York."

I put my faith this year in Abraham Lincoln, who once observed:

If you once forfeit the confidence of your fellow citizens, you can never regain their respect and esteem. You may fool all of the people some of the time; you can even fool some of the people all the time; but you can't fool all of the people all of the time.

George Bush has forfeit the confidence of his fellow citizens. I trust explicitly that the American people will see their way through to the truth and remove this usurper from Thomas Jefferson's home.
