Pictures of Barak Obama from today's Rally!!!!!! HUGE pics..warning
This morning I had the PLEASURE of attending a rally at The Morning Star Church in Kankakee, IL. The key note speaker was Barak Obama. Tari Renner who's running for Congress against Jerry Weller also spoke. I took a BUNCH of pics and just wanted to share the Obama pictures with you. He gave a fantastic speech about the importance of voting and how each of us is obligated to TAKE 10 voters to the polls to vote! :bounce: The church was packed with supporters. So packed, they ended up opening another room for people to sit! We heard some FANTASTIC gospel music and some terrific speeches and the people of Kankakee County are PUMPED and ready to kick Bush to the curb!

Here's some pics! Enjoy! Barak was AWESOME!

2. Funny coincidence
I just made a quick stop at a grocery store here in Central WI and parked next to a new Lexus that a little white-haired, elderly lady was getting in to......it had an OBAMA STICKER ON IT!

I complimented her on the sticker and she said that her son who lives in Chicago brought it up to her....he's a big Obama supporter. She said she just finished reading his book and is very inspired by it. When we finished talking, I encouraged her to "vote early and often" and she laughed and said she wouldn't miss this election for anything!

Nice to meet people like that.

Small world we live in! I wasn't born here, but have lived here my entire life. We are runnin' the Republican party OUT of town and out of the state! :bounce:

Did you know that one of John Kerry's Swiftboat vets who served with him on the Swiftboat in Vietnam, Jim Wasser, is from Kankakee also? He was on stage at the Democratic National Convention! Pretty cool, eh?

Anyway...nice to know you're out there and Kankakee loves you back! :hi:

9. How could someone so young (looking) be so brilliant and articulate?
This man is so delicious...in the best way you could ever think of that word.

He hits you on so many chords (eye appeal, emotion, taste, afterglow) that any other word does not come to mind for me.

Amazing does not do it(they said that of the elephant man)...Astounding does not do it (that would be the 'Flying Wallendas') I could go through the alphabet and still end up with that same word!

No, delicious is the only word I can come up with.:bounce:

Thanks for the pics!

He is a wonderful human being and everything I would ever want in a president. Good-hearted, diplomatic, INTELLIGENT, well-spoken, just, compassionate (that's not just a word to him), wordly, hard-working... I could go on.

I also feel that, as a biracial man, Obama represents what is good about America. Not that our racial problems are over (far from it- don't worry, I don't have Dubya's rose-colored glasses) but that at our best American can be a true melting pot and point to the fact that humans can get along if we just try to understand one another. One of the things that all my favorite cities have in common is that there are so many mixed race couples, gay couples, people coming together because they love one another not because they're the right sex and color to be together. Maybe I'm extra sensitive to that because I am in a mixed-race marriage.

Sure there are a few things on which I don't totally agree with him (he supports civil unions but not gay marriage and he drives an SUV), but for the first time EVER I feel like we would have in an elected official a man who would take all sides of an issue under advisement before making a decision. I believe he will REPRESENT his constituents based on what he feels is best, rather than being bought and sold by lobbyists or political favors. That is the first time I've ever felt like that about a politician I've voted for in an election.

The fact that he's absolutely beautiful to look at doesn't hurt at all either. ;)

17. You're welcome!
And I feel the same way about Obama. he's a man of integrity. You can feel it and see it in his eyes when he speaks. The only other politician I've ever felt that way about is Wes Clark.

Barak will be a wonderful Senator. With him and Dick Durbin in the Senate working for us, we cannot go wrong! Illinois is LUCKY!

22. Agreed...
My very cynical husband watched Obama's keynote address with me. He stayed completely silent (instead of snarking all the way through or getting up and leaving the room), and afterwards said that Obama was the only politician he'd ever seen who he felt was completely sincere about what he was saying. I even caught him reading Obama's blog the next day.

Thanks so much for the pictures -- they're wonderful. If nothing else good comes out of this campaign season, I feel that at least I got to know this delightful and fascinating man a little better, and I can't wait until I get to cast a vote for him someday.

12. I just remembered a story Barak told about He and Dick Durbin!
Edited on Sat Sep-25-04 02:46 PM by in_cog_ni_to
I can't believe I forgot to post this in my OP!

Barak said he and Dick Durbin were traveling around the state of Illinois and one of their stops was Cairo, IL. Back 30 years ago, Cairo was as bad as Birmingham, Alabama when it came to racism. Dick Durbin told Barak a story... 30 years ago, a Senator with big ears and a bowtie, Paul Simon, had sent him to Cairo to learn what he could about the riots, the segregation and the unrest. Simon wanted to know what HE needed to do to improve the race relations in Cairo, IL. Barak said, "As Dick finished his story we drove into Cairo and took a curve around a courthouse and all we saw were OBAMA for SENATE signs...all over the place." He said he and Dick just "looked at each other, we didn't have to say a word because we both knew what the other was thinking....things in Cairo have IMPROVED." Times have changed! Paul Simon was a big part of that change too! I thought it was a great story. Heartwarming. :hi:

We have a long way to go...still, but it's improved to the point where the citizens of Cairo are supporting an African American for the Senate. That's a good thing. :) That's an AWESOME thing!

28. No. Not bulletproof glass.
:) I "think" it was some kind of sound deflector panels for the DRUMS and piano they had. Those panels made a half circle around the drummer and pianist. They really weren't high enough to protect the speakers.

They had a drummer and pianist playing for the Gospel choir. They ROCKED! :yourock:
