1. John Quincy Adams
Wife born in Great Britain. One of her parents was British, one American (can't remember which is which). He met her while he was serving as US Ambassador to Great Britain I believe.

During the DEM convention, they said if Kerry is elected then Theresa would be the second foreign born first lady so my sister got out her First Lady Book and we found out who was the first!

Louisa Catherine Adams did not come to this country until four years after she had married John Quincy Adams. Political enemies sometimes called her English. She was born in London to an English mother, Catherine Nuth Johnson, but her father was American--Joshua Johnson, of Maryland--and he served as United States consul after 1790.

Only First Lady born outside the United States, Louisa Catherine Adams did not come to this country until four years after she had married John Quincy Adams.
