Should John Kerry call the President a "liar" in the debates?
Or should he use every synonym, but not the "L" word itself.

I'm of two minds about this, and wonder what you all think.

It would, of course be accurate to say lie, lies, lying, liar, but how would it play?

4. Lie is OK...
probably calling him a liar wouldn't look so great. But if he catches him in an outright lie about something signifigant, he should say it's a lie.

15. Absolutely agree
"Mr. President- that is a lie" is exactly the way to respond to specific mis-information from W during the debates. People won't respect/respond to "Respectfully disagreeing", but at the same time it IS distinguishable from name calling.

5. FUCK NO!!!
But the rest of us should.

Kerry can ask Bush why he hasn't been entirely honest with the American people or why No Child Left Behind left the funding behind or why Clear Skies has polluted our skies and so on. The dishonesty and deceit should be exposed.

Kerry calling Bush names would not go over well with many voters.

6. Nope.
There are plenty of other creative ways to call Bush a liar.

Though, I'm sure you'll get plenty of responses stating that he should use the "L" word. Some DUers have been demanding that for months.

'False' is good too. Don't dance around it, say it like it is.

I know he's gong to win, both the debates and the election. It's going to be up to us to make sure they don't get away with any games this time.

and he should use every one of them. Mislead, fabricate, concoct, fantasize, weave out of whole cloth, fail to tell the trugh, was dishonest, stated a falsehood, etd.

Meanwhile, Dean, Clark, McAuliffe, Senators etc. should use the simple word "Liar".

44. Don't call him a liar, just point out his lies
For example: "On 9/7/2002, you stood with Tony Blair and told the American people that an IAEA report stated that Iraq was 6 months away from a nuclear weapon. In fact, the report you referred to said the opposite. The IAEA has said they made no such statement."

That way, he can't repeat his line about "we all believed the intelligence, Clinton did too, etc." This is a direct lie, attributable to him and only him.

45. No, that is just further lowering the bar
As someone else said - Bush's statements and or policies can be called lies, but NAME CALLING is wrong.

Even if Bush calls Kerry a Flip-Floper, Kerry should just say "Mr. Bush, I don't want to resort to name calling, you have lowered the standards of the United States Government more than any other President of modern day history, I do not wish to add to this travesty."

46. I wouldn't hesitate to use the word lie or lies, but would avoid the name
calling or "liar". But what I believe is more important is too broaden the critique to label what Bush has done as immoral and unethical.

It was enethical to mislead the country into war.

It was immoral to approve torture of detainees denied the protections of the Geneva Convention.

It would be effective, I believe, to say it is not in accord with Christian values to seek revenge for 9/11.

I would say George Bush is not only a liar, he is the most unChristian man who ever served in the Oval Office.
