Let's hear it for the KIDS!
I was in a store today and there was a young boy, about 11 years old, helping his mom (the store owner) -- he was wearing a hat with a Kerry/Edwards button and a NO WAR button. I was of course wearing my K/E shirt and we started chatting.

He's only in 6th grade but he's very tuned into this election. I asked him if he wanted to help my daughter with some K/E fundraising, and I got his email address. Very cool kid. His mom said he was the one who convinced her to go to see Fahrenheit 9-11.

I just love to see kids this young being involved. Many of the ones I've met are actually interested in and informed about the issues, they aren't just parroting their parents' views.

These kids are our future, and this one in particular made me feel very hopeful!

1. Great story, when I was his age they shot Kennedy. I was hook on politics
from the time I was 7 so this killed me and I have been strong in my fight for what's right(left) every since. I honestly believe Kerry has the same ideals as Kennedy without the scandalous ways.

2. I've told this before
But I'm so proud of my 14 yr old nephew, who is marooned in Texas with a nutso fundie mother, and has still figured out for himself that he supports Kerry.

He was thrilled to find that I did too.

3. In my 8 year old son's class
they were making bumperstickers for a project, and one kid made "Bush Lied, People Died" and another made "Save a Tree, Dump a Bush".

These kids are probably just copying what they see, but my son is starting to ask questions about the war. He saw a big sign that said "God Bless Our Troops" when we were driving today and he said, "I sure hope God is listening!"

4. In OC, the two most active kids are Natasha and Alex. Kids are great
They go everywhere and pass out their comics and articles. Natasha gave a speech in support of the Department of Peace legislation that got the Calfornia Democratic Party legislative committee and then the E-board to agree to back the legislation. In other words, support of the Department of Peace is now official Democratic Party policy.

5. I think I speak for myself only here but
I do it because I feel like I have to, I didn't go canvassing as planned today but I found a way to protest Bush still.

6. Hey John, do you still count as a "kid"?
You seem wise beyond your years, but I guess that's what I meant when I started this thread, there are lots of great young people who are working hard even when they can't vote.

Makes sense to me, these are the people that will be most affected by this election, long after it's over.
