Only 15 pages into Hershe's "Chain of Command"
and I had to stop for a while. Such an overwhelming sadness and horror at what our government has become. The only definitive word is EVIL.

I will take a little heart and soul break, then go back to it. I may need to take a shower first, however.

Also started Kitty Kelly's book, but am still in the early family part. Its not very pretty either. What a sham our government is.

1. I'm not far into Kitty's book either but
the people that think * is a good ole boy should read it. His family roots have had money for generations.

4. Almost done with KK book
and Sy's is next. I know that a lot of people dismiss KK as a lightweight, rumor monger, even some sort of Rovian link, but if typical, everyday folk in the US would read her book they would have a little light shone on the BFEE that is not being covered by media. It would be a start.

2. It's like a journey into the heart of darkness
I'm ashamed for my country and what has been done in our name.

3. I just received both these books yesterday
I'm now reading "Cruel and Unusual" by Mark Crispin Miller, and have to take periodic breaks to reclaim my sanity. The chapter about the run-up to the war and the media complicity is just infuriating. I'm also reading "America: The Book", by Jon Stewart et al, which provides some much-needed chuckles.

I agree with your "Evil" characterization--and have for a long time now. Have joined the John Kerry Prayer Circle. Am campaigning for Kerry. Will vote for him. Wish I knew what else to do... If Bush and his evil cronies win, I may give up on prayer and abandon all hope. I'm guessing it wouldn't take long for the unraveling of our nation to be complete. God help us all!

DEFEAT BUSH!!

5. Question about "Chain of Command"
I'm looking for a few books I can lend to some newly registered but still undecided voters. Would you consider "Chain of Command" a good intro to the Bush administration or does it require some background knowledge?

6. From what I have seen so far, the book explains itself as it
goes. I don't think a lot of background knowledge is necessary. The truth is there, laid out.

8. After reading a couple books about Apartheid and US foreign policy in...
...places like South America, I've found a common theme explaining how the worst things happen. It's EVILNESS plus STUPIDITY.

There's nothing more dangerous for society than very stupid very evil people.

The assumptions that the apratheid government made about how the world works and about how people would react to apartheid, and about what would be good strategy to achieve their ends sometimes rises to such an incredible level of absurdity that you find yourself laughing out of utter shock when you read them. The same with some of the worst things the US has done abroad. You'll find that even the greediest Republicans, if smart enough, objecting to Kissinger and Nixon's plans for South America. But Kissinger and Nixon made some idiotic assumptions about what kind of Ys would follow their Xs.

Now we have the nadir of this principle sitting in the white house. Extreme stupidity coupled with an immorality, and we're seeing the consequences once again.
