I just heard Drudge talking about Kerry sweating
Apparently this is a new GOP talking point. Can you believe how fucking infantile these people are?

1. someone please tell bush to wear a cotton undershirt once in a while
Surely there must be sophisticated undershirts/cloth that could wick sweat from his body so it wouldn't stain his outer shirt.

3. Yeah, they did this to Al Gore, too.
With some legitimacy. Hadn't noticed it with Kerry, particularly -- it was hard to miss, with Gore.

It just means Democrats are healthy and well-hydrated, as far as I'm concerned. Why on earth would you make a big deal about the fact that somebody sweats under lights? Jesus, anybody who doesn't is a reptile.

5. goes back to the Nixon Kennedy debate
they say that the people who watched on televisions though Kennedy had won the debate because Nixon sweated a lot throughout.

6. I have never noticed
Seriously - unless it globs on their upper lip or rolls down their temple.
Heck - even that pic of Bush isn't an indicator. Playing golf in the humid South is sweaty.
STANDING outside in the humid South causes buckets of sweat. One needs not be exerting any energy other than breathing!
We all sweat down here (on women, it's called "dew," I kid you not), so what!

7. If it's the Nixon/Kennedy thing,
television and audiences were fairly unsophisticated then, and sweat was something people didn't do..not on t.v. for heaven's sakes.
It's a whole different world today where sweat is recognized as a natural function, especially if the lights in the studio are hot. It just goes to show how idiotic and backward the repubs are.

Didn't somebody say we'd been invaded by a race of interplanetary reptiles? Is it David Icke? There, you have it -- David Icke is right, and Republicans are just very large reptiles!

25. There have been pretty specific things about...
Bush being half reptile alien...tool for the new overlords etc. Pretty fun stuff to read, as long as you don't actually take it seriously. Really well thought out in a completely nutjob insane kind of way. Goes well with Jim Marrs Alien book. Love that stuff.

Anyway...I'm thinking what if he's not some reptile alien half-breed, lets just hypothesis here that he's not ok? What if they have some secret drug that prevents him from sweating for a period of time. LIke a 4 or 8 hour no sweat pill. Dangerous becaus eyou could overheat, but something they give him, then turn up the heat in the place, put an extra light on Kerry etc.

Make Kerry sweat his ass off, while Bush is clean and dry. You know they've thought of this...

27. All they have to do is make him run right at the thin edge of dehydration.
As a bonus, it would make him logy and keep him from blowing up at the slightest provocation, which must be a major concern for his handlers, right now. Either that, or maybe they'll put him in an immense hamster wheel and just force him to run on it for a few hours earlier in the day. I honestly think they wear him out physically to keep him from looking even twitchier and more anxiety-ridden than he already is. If they 'sweat him out' before the debates, he might almost pass out on camera, but he won't sweat.

9. Sweaty Politicians Do Not Bode Well in Public Opinion Survey
http://prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=SPIFAS.story&STORY=/www/story/08-30-2004/0002240409&EDATE=MON+Aug+30+2004,+08:04+AM

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- The Dockers(R) brand, the nation's
innovation leader in casual wear for men, today announced its unofficial shirt sponsorship of the 2004 presidential election. The brand provided presidential candidates, John Kerry and George W. Bush, with competition-ready shirts containing breakthrough Perspiration Guard(TM) technology that drastically minimizes unsightly perspiration marks from showing through, no matter how heated the campaign becomes. The shirts also utilize Refresh Action(TM), an antimicrobial technology that actively eliminates the bacteria that causes odor, keeping clothes smelling fresher, longer.

With only weeks before the formal debates -- and as both parties fight to establish the most favorable impression among the voting public -- a new CARAVAN(R) omnibus survey reveals that almost half of Americans admit they will negatively perceive professionals who show sweat marks on their clothes. According to the survey findings, Americans also believe politicians are the second-sweatiest professionals in America, trailing only behind traders on the
stock exchange floor.

These combined learnings yield a noteworthy implication as the fight for America's next Commander-in-Chief reaches its peak on the campaign trail and culminates with the upcoming debates: more than one-in-three Americans will negatively perceive Bush or Kerry if he shows sweat marks on his clothes.

20. here's the rebuttal
Roger Simon, June 1999, as quoted in Daily Howler:

Al Gore stands in the sheltering shadow of a giant maple in the square of his boyhood hometown, two thirds of the way through one of the best speeches of his life. He’s belting it out, bringing it home, when he feels . . . a tickle.

Which turns into a trickle, a trickle of sweat, which he cannot avoid wiping away from his upper lip. This happens during nearly every speech, inside or outside, air-conditioned or not, and he just can’t help it, reaching out quickly with his left hand and executing a backhand swipe. It can happen four or five times in a 20-minute speech, but he has been trying so hard to avoid it during this speech, the speech in which he announces that he wants to be president of the United States. To no avail. Al Gore may have the heart and soul of a moderate Democrat, but his sweat glands are positively Nixonian.

21. It sounds like silly gamesmanship.
Put some stupid ass thing out there hoping the Kerry people will be mildly distracted by it (I doubt it), or the media will pick up on it so the "pundits" will have something to spin spin spin on after the debates. It's just another piece of nonsense to distract from the issues.

Our media are so astonishingly fucked up that it wouldn't surprise me if they decided to run with it though:

Candidates Trade Jabs Over Terrorism, Iraq

John Kerry and President Bush engaged in spirited debate over Iraq and the war on terror tonight, as each man strove to give his campaign momentum going into the last month of campaigning.

The debate was dominated by one-liners, as each candidate claimed his plan was the best for the country, and would result in a safe America.

"I know something about fighting in a war for the wrong reasons, and today in Iraq, America is in the wrong war at the wrong time," said Democratic challenger John Kerry.

For his part, President Bush stuck to the theme he has been hitting throughout his campaign: that a resolute hand is needed to guide the nation through the war on terror. "How can anyone understand what my opponent wouldn't do in office? He has taken 97 positions, some of them contraposed, on the war. Tonight makes them 98."

At one point, Senator Kerry called the president's allegation that terrorists were rooting for his campaign "absurd and dangerous," to which President Bush replied, "That really makes you sweat, doesn't it?"

Although it wasn't clear that Senator Kerry was actually sweating, analysts seized on Bush's quip and announced him the winner.

Chris Matthews of MSNBC, likened it to Ronald Regan's famous, "Are you better off now than you were four years ago?"

"He sealed the deal with that comment," Matthews said. "It will go down as the remark that sank John Kerry's swiftboat in a sea of sweat." Matthews added, "Did you see how manly the president looked in his white shirt and tie? He usually doesn't look that hot unless he's wearing jeans."

Jeff Greenfield, senior political analyst for CNN, said, "It wasn't the sweat that was important. What was important was the fact of the sweat. Americans are going to ask themselves, 'How can Kerry keep me safe from terrorists when the president can accuse him of sweating and get away with it?'"

A CNN/Gallup poll conducted immediately after the debate showed the public gave the nod to Senator Kerry. 48% of the respondents felt Kerry had done better, to Bush's 40%.

Both candidates said they were pleased with their performance. "I think I really made him sweat out there tonight," said an upbeat Bush.

The candidates head back out on the campaign trail tomorrow, with President Bush campaigning in Pennsylvania, while Senator Kerry heads to Ohio, and the possibility he can get some windsurfing in on Lake Erie in between campaign stops.

The next debate, in a town hall format, will be held Oct 8 at Washington University in St. Louis.

CNN's Candy Crowley put down the bon bons long enough to contribute to this story.

22. sweating is now just fine, apparently
Andrea Mitchell told the panel on Tweety's Sunday show that Bush sweating at campaign stops shows he's a real person, and he is comfortable with everyday Americans.
Kerry, meanwhile, looks like he just stepped out of a men's fashion magazine....
This is the crap we have to put up with from our pundits....

26. so Kerry sweat means he is nervous and scared
if Bush sweats it means he is a regular guy.

if Kerry doesn't sweat then he is one of those who just stepped out of men's fashion magazine. if Bush doesn't sweat it means he is brave and in control.
