Kennedy: Bush Makes U.S. More Vulnerable: "mushroom cloud more likely"

WASHINGTON - An arrogant rush to war in Iraq (news - web sites) has made the country more vulnerable to nuclear attack while the Bush administration has misled the public with "happy talk" about prospects for peace, Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (news, bio, voting record) said Monday.

>>>"The president's handling of the war has been a toxic mix of ignorance, arrogance and stubborn ideology," said Kennedy, D-Mass., in a speech to students at George Washington University. "The president's arrogance toward the world community has left our soldiers increasingly isolated and alone."

Meanwhile, he said, the administration continues to insist that the country is safer now because of the war. But Americans "deserve to hear more from our president than happy talk like that," said Kennedy. "The war in Iraq has made the mushroom cloud more likely, not less likely.

>>>"It's a campaign of anger and insult," Kennedy said. "And the most egregious examples are the examples of Vice President Cheney. When he even goes on to suggest that the al-Qaida wants John Kerry to win, that is the most outrageous charge. It's the most anti-American — it's McCarthyism of the first order."

I fully believe what he is saying. I've often thought this many times before he's said it. That's why I'm fighting so hard for Kerry.

on edit: I put Kerry instead of Kennedy in the subject line

5. As a Mass. resident (aka Masshole, haha)
I have to say, I have been very happy with Kennedy as our Senator.

At every election he is a shoe-in, and basically he just speaks his mind and votes his conscience without fear.

He has been Senator as long as I can remember (as well as Kerry). My experience is that he is very responsive to his constituents. He helped my wife get a Pell Grant years ago. Say what you want about him, he has skeletons in his closet, he's riding JFK's shirtails, make fun of his drinking, etc.. I think he is the balls, and he deserves a lot more respect. He is a great senator.

6. Oh I agree with you too!
It's just everybody else that makes comments to me. It makes me mad because I know he speaks the truth about the political issues.

8. Conservatives (drunk ones, too) love to bash Ted Kennedy
because he's so effective, and right about Bush and his republican cabal.

2. Advising Putin to negotiate with terrorists
that slaughter school children cannot possibly help matters.

4. Putin mimicked Bush as he used the school massacre to propose
limiting political parties and curtailing freedoms. Bush simultaneously defended Putin's right to preemptively strike terrorists as his administration hacks weakly scolded Putin for his opportunistic crackdown on political and civil liberties.
