Pearl Jam slings a sonic lash at Bush
By GENE STOUT
SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER POP MUSIC CRITIC

Pearl Jam were rebels for a cause Friday night, turning up the heat on the Bush administration with a high-powered concert supporting "regime change" in Washington, D.C.

The rare performance (featuring a surprise encore guest) at The Showbox was one of a number of concerts taking place over the weekend at local clubs as part of the No Vote Left Behind festival of music, art and activism. The goal of the organization, a local hard-money political action committee, is to motivate young people to vote in November in hope of ousting President Bush.

Performers at various clubs included Queensryche, Jerry Cantrell, John Vanderslice, John Doe, Mudhoney and Cracker, among others.

"Nothing like this is happening in any other city in the country," Chris Olson, co-founder of No Vote Left Behind and a former intern for Rep. Jim McDermott, D-Wash., told the crowd at the sold-out concert by Seattle's resident supergroup. "We'll show the rest of the country what a little solidarity can do."
