Very Important to the Campaign!
Please send a letter like this to as many news organizations as possible:

I am providing this link which will link you to a number of media outlets: http://www.fair.org/media-contact-list.html

Dear Sir or Madam,
Ron Reagan the son of President Reagan had the following words about the upcoming presidential debate:

"Kerry has made a slight comeback in the polls, but it doesn't really matter how many people watch the debates. When Gore and Bush debated four years ago, Gore did a better job, but the press focused on his mannerisms and his make-up and ignored Bush's mistakes. The American media is not healthy.”

As a concerned citizen I sure hope this wont happen again. Because of this kind of thing I have basically lost all my confidence in the competence of the media. This upcoming election very well may be the most important election we have for quite some time. Lives are in the balance and the presidential debates are not a Mr. Congeniality contest! It is imperative that the media focus entirely on the substance of the debates and the content of what the candidates have to say rather than how they looked, how they came across and how funny they were or were not. My blood absolutely boils when the media decides to focus all their energy on these ridiculous things. That is the job of cosmopolitan magazine not the national media for God sake! I hope your reporters will make an honest attempt to stick to substance rather than image and other shallow things when reporting on the very important upcoming debates. Thank You!

1. mine to ABC nightly news
If recent history is a guide, there won't be much resembling debate in the upcoming presidential debates.

But the format does give voters an opportunity to evaluate the candidates' positions side by side.

I hope that is the focus of ABC's commentary and analysis: their positions side by side, not their hairdos side by side.

Every already knows John Kerry has better hair.

3. I just blitzed like 12 organizations with variations of the same letter...
including Newsweek's "Letters to the Editor." I sent it to Hannity and Colmes (fat lot of good that'll do), Tweety, Dan Rather/CBS, Nightline, Face the Nation, and others.

We should tell the pundits:

Talk about substance, not style.

If anyone watching at home was overcome by style, that's their loss, and don't make it worse.

Talk about how well the candidates address the issues.
