James Carville was warned by Republican friend in 2000
Eric Alterman has a great piece on Slate (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3449870/):

From Carville: “Back in 2000 a Republican friend warned me that if I voted for Al Gore and he won, the stock market would tank, we'd lose millions of jobs, and our military would be totally overstretched. You know what? I did vote for Gore, he did win, and I'll be damned if all those things didn't come true!"

Must have been his wife who told him that. She had the insider info from Cheney.

In the same editorial, I really liked what Alterman wrote about comparing Iraq to Vietnam:

"Iraq is actually worse than Vietnam. When Vietnam happened, we hadn’t experienced Vietnam yet. We didn’t know that a president would lie to the country in order to involve us in a war that would needlessly kill tens of thousands of Americans and destroy our prestige and moral standing in the world. Now we do. And we let it happen again."

Been there... done that... learned nothing.

3. He is the funniest guy I've heard in a long time. That was the best line
in his book about voting for Gore. We did not learn from history. I wonder if Bush had gone to Nam if he would be so gung ho about war.

6. I read the Carter opinion piece in the WA Post and didn't find that quote
In Alternan's editorial he did not "quote" that line as being someone else's words. Did you see it somewhere attributing it to Carter? Because it is a great point that I would like to use again.

7. Yes. Worse than 'Nam. God, how sad.
Also worse because the blowback from Iraq will be hell for years. Vietnam, after we left? NAH-thin! No dominoes. OK: killing fields, yeah. But nothing impacting U.S. nat'l security.

Think about that, so-called 'security moms'. Think Bush will keep you safe? He'll send your babies off to die in foriegn deserts for his PNAC delusions.
