Roughly 56 hours left until Kerry gets killed in debates
I fall back in fear at the thought of Bush, the master debater, destroying Kerry.

We pray for mercy!

He was on the John McEnroe show following Elliot Spitzer and made a point to show his support for bush*, he got some polite applause and that's it.

2. BWAHAHAHAHA!
I wonder if it'd be a good thing or a bad thing for Bush to use the option to duck out of the last two debates.

3. Kerry's probably getting so nervous, that he won't prepare well.
Between that and his being sick, I don't see how we can expect a good performance.

You can't blame him for being intimidated.

5. I am just so afraid
that Kerry will wet his pants and everyone will see it. It will be so embarrassing, but I son't blame him for being scared. Bush is so powerful and rugged and smart. it makes me quake when I think about how he will talk circles around Kerry with his pithy succinct stories about life and the war.

27. I thought
This is a John F Kerry thread, isn't it? "He" would be the same John F Kerry. I only asked a question because his (John F Kerry's) complexion color looks extremely un-natural. But instead I get a bunch of smart-ass comments about being new or reading Drudge. Great bunch of people here?

..perhaps you're familiar with that? It something that active people get when they windsurf, boat, campaign.. etc. You can try googling the word "tan" if you'd like.

37. Welcome to DU. I think lighting was problem in WI.
I must agree that when I turned on C-SPAN last night I was a taken back by the skin color tone. Maybe it was just the lighting in WI but the tan was very deep red and did not look healthy. Sure, he is always well tanned but this time it looked very bad. I hope it was make-up and lighting or else we are talking skin cancer for sure.

But I do watch some C-SPAN and I was slightly disturbed by this visage last night . . .

Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry speaks to supporters during a meeting at River Valley Middle School in Spring Green Monday. The appearance was expected to be his biggest public event during his stay, as he prepared for the upcoming debates.

10. Will There be Any Spontenity?
History shows that the candidates find a way to give prepared answers on topics they want to talk about - regardless of the questions.

Because the debates reach people who do not otherwise pay attention to politics, there is an intent to keep things simple and to repeat the theme of whatever campaign commercial is currently playing.

Good reporters typically try to ask a pointed question that will make a candidate think on their feet. I hope the format allows follow-up questions and allows the candidates to ask each other questions.

25. Who was it?
who once said to the press "I'm sorry but your questions are not responsive to my answers"

You're absolutely right: No matter what the question they will give the answer nearest to their pre-prepared talking points.

19. OMG! What if Kerry.. likes... SWEATS!!?????
I truly hope that people realize that this is a joke thread... the danger is these threads is that they ARE taken, sometimes, by others and posted as gospel on the awesomeness of Bush and the failing support of Kerry. Be sure to include a few disclaimers in your jokes.. some people actually think you're serious.

Edited on Tue Sep-28-04 01:22 PM by tblue37
Low expectations help Bush only because the media spins it in his favor. But if you keep saying Bush is a master debater, the media will spin it as Bush the master debater did it again and demolished his opponent.

Saying Kerry will get creamed give the media one more arrow to shoot him with. I just think it is risky to joke like this.

Also, about Kerry's tan. It is foolish head-in-the-sandism to pretend that it won't matter if he looks too orange or too made up. It hurt Gore in the last election when he was too made up for one debate.

I think (hope) the Drudge pic is photoshopped. If it isn't, all the media whores will talk about is Kerry's orange tan. They will ignore every criticism he makes on the issues and on Bush's lies.

I saw Kerry on PBS last night and he did look deeply tanned, though not at all orange. Even a deep non-orange tan will be sniffed over by the pundits, I'm sure. But an orange one would definitely do him some damage. Why pretend otherwise?
