MSNBC: "Good news for Bush in two new polls," "Solid leads over Kerry"
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6122850/

A pair of new polls released Tuesday show that President Bush is maintaining a healthy lead over Sen. John Kerry as the first of their three nationally televised debates approaches.

In a Washington Post-ABC News Poll, Bush has a six-point lead over Kerry — 51 percent to 45 percent — among likely voters while independent Ralph Nader garners 1 percent. Bush's lead is seven points — 51-44 — among registered voters. A new poll from USA Today/CNN/Gallup showed similar results. Bush leads Kerry by eight points — 52-44 — among likely voters and by 11 points — 53-42 — among all registered voters. Nader claims three percent in both cases.

In conducting their poll, the Post and ABC found that Bush has built his lead by through "relentless attacks on Kerry" that have "badly damaged the Democratic nominee. ... Voters routinely describe Kerry as wishy-washy, as a flip-flopper and as a candidate they are not sure they can trust, almost as if they are reading from Bush campaign ad scripts."

"But Kerry's problems are also partly of his own making. Despite repeated efforts to flesh out his proposals on Iraq, terrorism and other issues, he has yet to break through to undecided voters as someone who has clear plans for fixing the country's biggest problems."

5. And on that happy note...
What a delightful romp DU has been lately with members just tripping all over themselves to post negative polls. What is the point behind this? You want us to just curl up into a ball on Nov. 2nd and not even leave the house to vote?

8. No, I want the bogus polls debunked.
If you can show me the part of my post where I asked you to "just curl up into a ball on Nov. 2nd and not even leave the house to vote" I'll go back into edit mode and remove it.

I know this stuff is bogus. I post it here so that when people reply and tell me WHY it's bogus, I have some ammo to use when friends start telling me about Bush being in the lead.

I'm speaking for myself, not anyone else who posts ANYTHING on DU. You asked (or more accurately, accused), I replied.

13. this has been stated
just making sure washington was the other one. but they poll 6-8% more repugs. doesnt work for me. factually dems have voted more, adn dems are riled, adn doesnt include massive new voters adn dems are winning that, and doesnt take in cell phone user, strong majority dems

so i dont buy this poll. will look at the other 4, 5, 6, 7

16. According to The Left Coaster, Gallup oversampling of pukes
in latest poll is higher than that.

Here is the text from the email I got from Gallup this morning outlining the party ID breakdown in their likely voter samples from their two most recent national polls:

Likely Voter Sample Party IDs – Poll of September 13-15
Reflected Bush Winning by 55%-42%

Total Sample: 767
GOP: 305 (40%)
Dem: 253 (33%)
Ind: 208 (28%)

Likely Voter Sample Party IDs – Poll of September 24-26
Reflected Bush Winning by 52%-44%

Total Sample: 758
GOP: 328 (43%)
Dem: 236 (31%)

Ind: 189 (25%)

Looking at this, again I have a simple question: how can anyone, especially USA Today and CNN, let alone the rest of the media take a Gallup national poll seriously when Gallup knowingly puts a poll out there for consumption with a 12% GOP bias in its likely voter sample that everyone knows does not exist in the country today or at any time in the last three presidential elections?

I haven't come across anything on the data used in the WaPo-ABC poll.

14. The "curl up into a ball" comment...
was posed as a question. I never said you said it. Sorry to jump down your throat, but there are some members that post negative polls will such obvious glee. Sorry to lump you in with them if this is not the case.

4. Fine, let George think he has this in the bag.
All those newly registered voters aren't pissed off for nothing and they ain't voting for W.

All that matters is voter turnout.

9. And I'm SUUUUUUUURE...
That (non) liberal bias has something to do with it.

"well DUH, nobody knows John Kerry--we in the media make damn sure to ignore anything he says or does..."

"oh, what Georgie? You need another free pass? SURE THING! Have THREE!"

6. This is where the media comes in.
"But Kerry's problems are also partly of his own making. Despite repeated efforts to flesh out his proposals on Iraq, terrorism and other issues, he has yet to break through to undecided voters as someone who has clear plans for fixing the country's biggest problems."

The media ignore Kerry's policy positions and statements and focus on trivialities surrounding his campaign -- "Where's Edwards?" "How will Kerry combat the Bush flip flop charges?" -- and then attack Kerry for not clearly communicating a policy.

If Kerry jumped up and down screaming that he's annunciated a plan, told people where to find it on his website or where to find transcripts of the many, many speeches where Kerry outlined his plan, the media story would be, "Kerry jumps up and down and screams."

They are singlehandedly fucking over his campaign, and then blaming him for it.

18. I hate the fucking media.
If the situations were reversed and Galllup was oversampling the Democrats by 12 POINTS, then not only would they call them out on it, they'd have the headline "Kerry Barely Maintains Lead."

There's a special place in Hell reserved for these pigs.

Even the Viacom CEO, Sumner Redstone, admitted to being a Bush supporter because he would be better for his corporation (he likes de-regulation and perks like that.) And Sumner is supposedly a Dem, though looking at his entire donation record, he does try to play both sides. Just imagine the amount of bias at Gallup, then! Conspiracy in even Gallup is not out of the question.

21. I despise these lazy or worse news agencies.
If it was Kerry 51 Bush 45 they would say race is within margin of error and too close to call. With Bush at 51 they say "healthy lead." I HATE THEM SO MUCH!!!!!!!
