I don't watch a lot of TV but I remember from past presidencies that every monday morning there would be a shot of whatever president warming a pew in some church. I certainly saw plenty of shots of Clinton.

I haven't seen any of Dubya.

Where is he going to church. Why haven't we seen any photos?

This started as a response to another thread complaining about people calling Dubya "Godly".

What is he's not?

Wouldn't the "Godly" people feel cheated?

If we happened to post a few pix of Kerry darkening the doorway of a church and pointed out that there don't appear to be any Dubya pictures, we may be able to blow away the "Godly" meme.

It's worth a shot.

30. I've wondered that for a long time.
Boy George, who's supposed to be so "godly," never seems to darken the door of a church. Meanwhile, the Clintons (who the wingnuts view as the Antichrist)were regular churchgoers, & Hillary is a devout Methodist.

Go figure.

3. Found one
http://www.ruggedelegantliving.com/a/002966.html

Every summer we attend church at either St. Ann's Episcopal Church or The Church on the Cape in Cape Porpoise. There were only two early risers in our household this morning who joined President Bush, First Lady Laura, his father "41," his mother Barbara, his three brothers Neil, Marvin and Jeb, his sister Doro, family and friends for the eight o'clock service.

That's around August 8th 2004.

5. Ah but you know how that goes:
they'll say that what Bush does in terms of worship is between him and his God and that its no one else's business. Never mind of course that professions of faith should be public.

Also don't forget that Bush is rather forgiving of gay and pro-abortion republicans, since the real problem in america is due to the liberals who would have the same point of view in life.

6. I can't recall any time he was at church
either. It could be a 'security issue' for him. He's so afraid of being out with real people. Would the congregation have to sign a pledge to him to go to church?

16. They didn't under Clinton
http://gadflyer.com/articles/?ArticleID=103

So why doesn't he? Among the reasons I've been given is that the security precautions would be too onerous. This, it should be noted, is the exact same excuse Ronald Reagan proffered for not attending church at all during his time in Washington. And I'd almost buy it, if not for the fact that for several years in the late 1990s, I attended Foundry Methodist Church when the Clintons were members there and found that it took all of an extra five seconds to pass through the metal detectors and enter the church. Parishioners were not outnumbered by tourists (and, in any case, we were happy that they were in church, no matter what the reason) and the Clintons played an active role in the life of the church, with Chelsea particularly involved in the choir and youth group while she was still in town.

He SUPPOSEDLY prays at the WH with his fundie freaks...Falwell and Robertson. I don't believe it. He occasionally shows up at a church when he needs a photo op. His religion is a farce. It's all an act...just like his Crawford, TX farm prop and his phony accent. The man is a FRAUD.

10. The "Godly" people don't really care
cuz Georgie found Jesus in the bottom of a bottle and he's trying to streamline the money flow to them!

Funny how that couldn't possibly happen for those on death row, etc. but works like a charm for ole Georgie.

Religious fundamentalist nutbags will always give Georgie a pass, cuz he's one of them.

13. Looks like somebody else noticed
http://gadflyer.com/articles/?ArticleID=103

"Kerry Takes Communion on Mother's Day" was the headline on a recent AP story about John Kerry's Sunday doings, followed by the lede: "Democrat John Kerry attended Mother's Day Mass on Sunday and took communion although some Roman Catholic leaders say he should not receive it because his abortion-rights stance violates church teachings."

Missing once again was the accompanying story that begins, "Republicans George Pataki and Tom Ridge attended Mother's Day Mass on Sunday and took communion although some Roman Catholic leaders say pro-choice politicians should not receive it because their stance violates church teachings."

Also no word on whether George W. Bush attended church over the weekend.

18. Pssssstt...
"..."Bush's born-again Christianity, an anomaly in his patrician East Coast clan, serves a similar function. For Bush, faith is less about the joyful worship of God in a community of believers (as Frank points out, he seldom attends church) than it is about forcing a structure on both the world and his own life without the risks inherent in a genuine attempt to understand either one."

20. Interesting...Kerry shows up regularly
http://archive.columbiatribune.com/2004/Apr/20040416News018.asp

John Kerry, a Catholic politician whose votes on abortion and gay marriage are at odds with the church’s teachings, met privately yesterday with Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, the Washington archbishop heading a task force examining whether there should be church sanctions for such politicians.

...

On Easter, Kerry attended church services in Boston and received communion. A week earlier, on Palm Sunday, he took communion at an African Methodist Episcopal Church, which goes against church tenet.

Here he is at another service.

http://www.usatoday.com/news/politicselections/nation/2004-09-19-kerrys-faith_x.htm

John Kerry attends a church service in Springfield, Ohio in August.

From the article...

The Massachusetts senator attends services nearly every weekend. Sometimes he visits black churches. He went to Spanish-language Masses Sunday in Boston and last month on Nantucket. He makes clear in his stump speeches that he's a person of faith. And he's not shy about using Scripture to make political points.

Hmm. Seems like a Godly man to me.

But he claims it's because he doesn't want the news cameras and security details to disrupt the services (though other presidents somehow managed to attend church).

Reagan also did not go to church.

On the other hand, John Kerry has always regularly attended mass and taken communion.

Now, I am not at all religious, and I despise the way church women of both sexes have taken over our polity. However, it does seem that if the issue of who is more religious is going to be on the table and have such influence on Christianoid voters, the fact that the two major God-warriors of the Rethuglican party never attend church should be noted.

Isn't that special?

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,127704,00.html

Bush was at the White House Sunday after a two-day campaign tour to five battleground states. He attended church in the morning but refused to take questions from reporters.

Again, what church?

Fundies think he's a fundie. I'm not so sure.

27. The fundies do
Or at least they say they do. They keep going on about Dubya being a "Godly" man. All the "Godly" people I know show up at church. Dubya doesn't. Maybe the fundies need to know this so they can make a valid voting decision.

At least we can hope for "I ain't votin' for no cathlick but I sure ain't votin' for no man who pretends to be Godly so I'm just gonna stay home and sulk".

28. Like Reagan, the chimp isn't a churchgoer...
which is nobody's business except that he wears his apparently completely phony and non-existent religious beliefs on his sleeve and tries to pass himself off as a "godly" man. What a fraud. If he was interested in attending church, he could, and he wouldn't have to make a big show of it.

I remember when Clinton was Pres. and visiting in So Cal on a Sunday he quietly attended a church near my home -- no cameras and no publicity.
