This is why I was so worried about the ACT offices pulling out of MI

snip-
Bush has pulled into a virtual tie with John Kerry in Michigan, says a poll just out.

Kerry had 45 percent, Bush 43 percent, numbers within the margin of error (4 percent). Ralph Nader gets 1 percent.

"It shows some movement by Bush in the last couple of weeks," Bill Ballenger, editor of Inside Michigan Politics, told AP

snip-
"I would have thought Bush would be getting killed right now ... but he's not."

Those of us on the ground here are meeting a lot of undecideds who are not hep on our nominee. We need to stay focused on MI as well, and not get overconfident.

1. I doubt it
Kerry has not been down in a poll in Michigan for several months at this point. Wouldn't be too worried.

2. Very worried.
I am out there talking to people. Here...in Michigan. Again, I stress, let's quit with the overconfidence people.

11. its not overconfidence...
Edited on Tue Sep-28-04 12:45 PM by MelissaforKerry2004
its knowing what is going on...and I live on the western side of MI (very red) never seen so many dem signs in my life..its refreshing...Seeing a state for gore go to * after all the economic issues we have had and then all the crap he pulled with the war...just keep working...keep talking..keep letting the truth out...

we aren't losing our focus here..we are all working hard to elect John Kerry...but we can be optimistic and hopeful that by November 2nd the message is out...Bush is a liar, and out of touch...why voluntarily vote for someone who so obviously has not performed...GORE won last time...

don't be so down..I realize it can look bad at times...people have been brainwashed...we have a lot of work to do...lets keep going we have some time left...no giving up!

12. Um, not down, just realistic. When I read that the ACT offices close
down and go elsewhere...

When the phone banks aren't open at 6 PM.

When no one is addressing the thousands of disenfranchised voters in Detroit...it's difficult to get canvassers out there. I just want to stress not to get too overconfident. We cannot lose those states which we think are locks.

14. Never believed MI was a lock...
I think it was a mistake for ACT to move out but we can't get hung up on that we have to let these voters know they can go to the polls and even if they are off the rolls to SIGN an affidavit saying they are in fact a registered voter...

We just have to keep working...that is a sure sign that we have a lot more to do...but I do believe when it is all over...MICHIGAN WILL BE BLUE!

15. We need to keep it in mind is what I'm saying. I'm a Pollyanna in real
life, but not on this. We need to stay a bit hung up so we keep the momentum-which has noticeably slowed in my area of SE MI-up.

5. being a MI resident
I will donate my left lung to help make sure Kerry wins the state.

I plan on working my ass off and so do many, many of my friends no matter how many bush signs/stickers I see.

8. My friends in Port Huron all hate Bush with a passion. They told
me no way do Michiganers buy Bush's act. He was right last time. And I gotta think he'll be right this time.

10. you're right not to let us get over confident, MrsGrumpy
while I think Kerry will win Michigan we need to win it by a solid margin rather than just getting by.

13. Not overconfident here, BUT my repuke county has
far more Kerry signs than Bush signs. I live in a VERY conservative area, so this has been quite a surprise for me. Even the religious conservatives here - mostly Catholic - are supporting Kerry!!!

Oh, and Bill Ballinger, who's on local TV here, isn't exactly...progressive. Neither is the Detroit News.

16. I'm in Michigan too
But Ann Arbor is too liberal to be representative of the state.

However, my office mate just came back from up north, in rather conservative Leelanau County. He said four years ago there were many more Bush signs than Gore. This year he said he was amazed at the number of Kerry Edwards signs all over. Many, many more than Bush. He said one of them read, "Support Our Troops, Vote Bush OUT."

That's good news.

(On the lighter side, there were only two Bush Cheney signs in my area. Both were missing this past Sunday morning. One was across the street from me. But whoever removed that Bush sign, left the "Support our Troops" sign." I want a sign like the one above.)
