How do I volunteer to drive people to the polls?

Through which entity is this sort of effort organized? Obviously I prefer to drive Dems; but do I have to drive anyone who is in need, regardless of party? Would I have to remove my Kerry-Edwards decal from my car?

I will have that entire day free, and need to make myself useful somehow... otherwise I'll go nuts waiting until the polls close.

1. Call your local party office

Or a campaign that's hot & well organized in your area. They will be doing this.

Edit: But if you have that entire day free, why not pollwatch somewhere? Esp if you are in a swing state?

I'm in the Ann Arbor, Mich. area, and we all know that they're desperate to suppress the "Detroit vote."

2. Contact your local democratic party

by county, town, city or state. Google something like 'Democratic Party of Prince William County, VA'. The people organizing the lists will choose potential Democratic or leaning Democratic (mostly senior citizens) to hook you up with.

3. That's what I was going to say. Here, the Dem hqtrs. are in the county

seat. I have already signed up as a volunteer for that duty.

4. Contact your local Democratic organization

Your state's Board of Elections should have this information. If you don't have a town committee, you'll at the very least have a county committee to report to. Your state Democratic organization is also a good resource.

I believe we're obliged to drive anyone who asks us. And even if we weren't, it would be the right thing to do. Nobody's said anything to me about removing the protected speech from my car. Hey, beggars can't be choosers!
