WSJ: 2000 Disenfranchisement of Florida's African-American voters a myth
Anyone able to debunk this?

http://www.abcnews.go.com/sections/politics/TheNote/TheNote.html

<edit>

The Wall Street Journal 's editorial board calls the notion of a widespread disenfranchisement of African-American voters in the 2000 election a "myth."

" idea that racial animus rather than all-around incompetence produced higher spoilage rates for blacks, or accounted for their misplacement on the infamously inaccurate 'felon purge list,' is fanciful at best. In Florida, as in many other states, the manner in which elections are conducted, including all of the essentials of the voting process, is determined at the county level."

"Which leaves the 'stolen election' crowd with these inconvenient facts: In 24 of the 25 Florida counties with the highest ballot spoilage rate, the county supervisor was a Democrat. In the 25th county, the supervisor was an Independent. And as for the 'felon purge list,' the Miami Herald found that whites were twice as likely to be incorrectly placed on the list as blacks."

2. Watch the uncovered documentary
It has been playing on Sundance this month

One important part is that county election supervisors had to remove all felons listed under Florida law- unless they proved they weren't felons. Some supervisors mailed letters, most just removed the names.

5. well you know it has a smacking of truth
The voting officials at the county level were too "incompetent" (using their words) to challenge their governor's attempt to give the election to his brother.

The documentary uncovered is on Tuesday 10/5 at 7:00 pm on sundance.

you also need to catch the documentarty Unprecedented which is on Friday 10/7 at 7:00 pm on Sundance.

These will PISS YOU OFF.

6. The WSJ Editorial Board has nothing to do with the WSJ
Edited on Tue Sep-28-04 01:24 PM by hatrack
And how would they know this? Are they suddenly reporters?

The Journal has some excellent writers and reporters. The Journal's Editorial Board, on the other hand, is the biggest collection of numb-nutted mouth-breathing ideological hacks to come down the pike since Warren Harding named his Cabinet.

The WSJ's editorial board has always made me :puke:

Weren't they the ones who called lower-income families "lucky duckies" because of taxes?

11. This is "statistically" laughable.
Of course there are more whites than blacks, so you would expect it to be higher. But if it's ONLY TWICE as high, even though there are FIVE TIMES as many whites than blacks, then there's clearly something WRONG! There was also evidence that the Hispanic purging was underwhelmingly low. Hispanics are known to vote for Republicans. Hmmm....

I don't think anyone has ever said that the disenfranchisement was done intentionally through the development of the balloting system. If anything, it is more likely that there was no plan in place to anticipate a greater number of inexperienced voters.

My major stolen election gripe has always been about the felon purging. And the data in this article CONFIRMS it. Someone just is refusing to do the right math.

to pay for voting equipment.

I would probably use the report from the commission on year 2000 voting irregularties to debunk this, if it is available.

14. No need to debunk - this is likely from WSJ editor John Fund

the biggest GOP whore on the planet. More smoke and mirrors from the RNC trying to justify the theft. Simply a statistical anomoly in his twisted mind, I suppose, that Duval County with a +50,000 DEM registration "somehow" voted for Bush by +44,000. Doesn't pass the smell test.
