Watching the news is depressing
Its not hard to tell why all the polls are showing Chimpy leading. They're making it seem like the race is already over.

I wonder what the regular person who doesn't follow politics like us thinks when they watch this stuff on the nightly news. I wonder how many are saying whats the point in going to vote. It won't matter? Which is pretty much the point of view these media outlets are protraying.

2. The polls are a hoax, we need to stay pumped up
They can call whatever zipcode they want but the only way we lose this election is to give up.

3. Underside to the message
Edited on Tue Sep-28-04 08:29 PM by debatepro
The underside of the message is that democrats have to work harder or its 4 more years. If Kerry was ahead I would worry that people would become complacent. The fact that we know they are all based on lies should get some mileage. Mention it to people you talk to about the poll number and why they are lies. The totality of our common discursive acts can hedge the dominatant discourse.

4. That's exactly what they want..
make Kerry supporters feel so dejected that they won't show up. We can't let them fool us. The only way the shrubster wins is if we don't show up. New voter registration is way up, especially in metro Atlanta, which is where I live. If we vote, Kerry wins and the media will have our butts to kiss on 11/3!

5. And, as the ad from MoveOn in the NYT said...
The polls showing Kerry behind affects the kind of coverage he gets. When Mr. & Ms. Sixpack hear nothing but "losing" stories about Kerry ("Why is he losing?" "When did he start losing?" "What can he do to stop losing?" "Oh, yeah, and this just in... Kerry is still LOSING!") there begins to form a certain "image" in the mind of the aforementioned Mr. & Ms. Sixpack. Care to guess what that image is?

8. I told my husband last night
I don't know why I watch this shit--its so annoying how they are already couting Kerry out...even though I know he will win

I know john kerry will win..we have to let all those who MIGHT stay home (who on earth would do this?) because they don't think Kerry has a shot..to get their ass out anyway....just let them know..the media is on THEIR side..not ours...

9. The Dumbing Down Of America At Full Strength
I've heard this mentioned over the years (Mike Malloy used to address this issue)...the GOOP ploy of numbing and dumbing down people through media manipulation. The intention to drive down vote total which help them as they load up the church busses and brow-beat their troops to the polls. This works on local school boards and in 2000, it worked on Gore. Now Kerry's getting the fully treatment.

The game here is to keep talking up things locally...avoid the national filter that has no real clue what's going on at the local and personal level and uses broad brushes that somehow group the troubles in California with those in Arkansas. Poll numbers mean nothing when looked at a national level also (and WE should know this) as the popular vote means nothing, it's the state-by-state races that matter and Kerry still holding well in all the Gore 2000 states.

CNNservative is trying to not only spin for the GOOP (the shilling is relentless and blatant) and completely misrepresenting Democrats, it's attempting to manufacture news as opposed to reporting it. This Gallup crap is a prime case. They're conflicted as they have a financial interest in these poll results, but present them as "unbiased"...other than the logos, they don't mention the relationship and conflict (they used to when Turner owned them).

Anyone with an ounce of political knowledge knows the election didn't swing 10 points in key states over the past month. But, as others, I prefer believing we're 10 points behind (even if we were ahead)...and to work harder to get Democrats elected and this regime out in November.

I don't hear defeat or quit from the many people I come in contact with, just more bluster and bullshit from the wingnuts. If there's any group in danger of staying home, it's the GOOPers...who may also swallow this poll crap as thinking the election's in the bag, and they should stay home (I'm sure spinning it like that these days where I can).

Personally, by now, if a person isn't interested in the election and what it means to their life, they aren't worth much effort...as opposed to those who have registered and haven't voted...and to make sure they do so.

The endgame here is going to be turn-out. It's which party is more motivated and who will be sure their people get to the polls. The Rove/CNN machine wants to depress the Democratic vote since they know it's going to be larger this year than it was in 2004 and their manchild hasn't gained any new voters and is working hard to energize his own herd. (You'd know this election was in real danger if Bunnypants was appearing in New Jersey or California)

I hope Democrats keep watching CNNservative, MSGOP & Faux...and GET MAD! Roll your eyes, yell at the set...then DO SOMETHING. Call friends, donate time at a local campaign headquarters, write a check...find one or two things you can do that will add up to an extra Kerry vote on election day.

The know we have truth and compassion on our side, it's time to embrace others with it one voter at a time.

Cheers!
