What did you do today to help the campaign?
Registered 1 voter.
Gave out a Kerry dvd. See kerrydvd.com, it's good stuff.
Put up some signs. AND (this the cool part) had an interview with some journalists over here from Norway who are doing a story on grassroots politics in Texas. They went out putting up signs with us and everything. What fun!

Your turn!

1. I didn't really do anything to help but
I put some pubs in their place in English class. I had to explain to the first that 9-11 did not equal Iraq. And the second tried to tell me how much of a "godly" man Bush was. I had the times with me and I pulled out the story of the ten millionth bishop going down (in more ways than one), and said that he too was a man of god, just because you talk the talk doesn't mean you walk the walk. Felt good.

Everyone should see this link and use these flyers. Your work is fabulous.

19. I really appreciate it. But keep reading...
I have gotten tremendous support here at DU. In fact, without DU I would have abandoned the BigPath effort a few weeks ago. Before I joined DU, my site had a grand total of 792 hits. Since joining DU about 16 days ago, the hit count now well over 100,000 with over 2,000 unique users. The site is gaining roughly 20,000 additional hits per day and adding 300-400 new users per day.

And this is all because of you folks!

I love doing this. People find it useful. That keeps me going. I won't deny there's ego involved, but at the end of the day, I would still remain anonymous if it made a difference of one vote.

The single best thing you can do is to tell everyone you know, here and elsewhere, because "print" although it sometimes appears to be a lost art is still very much alive. And whether you use them as flyers, or handouts or hang them in the company washroom, hopefully they'll get someone thinking enough to make a difference.

And look! More:

24. I love the "Our Children Left Behind" one
That one is particularly excellent, and it will be all over my kids' schools next week.

Unfortunately (or fortunately!) I live in an area where Kerry will beat Bush by well over 2:1 (really: this is Santa Cruz, Ca.; Bush will be lucky to get 25% of the votes), so I will be sure to send your link out to people in other places who may need literature like this. These would also be great for letter-writers.

Thanks again! Keep up the great work.

31. Our Children Left Behind - More on the Way
I'm working with someone to fine tune that series. There will also, hopefully, be a 5-6 page paper covering the whole failed program. I've talked to my niece who's a college senior and that's one of the things that's really important to her and her peers. Also, college tuition costs.

13. Going to try to help out if I can here in Texas
I wanted to go to it last Saturday, however, my dad forgot to get directions and we got lost trying to look for the place. I'll try again this Saturday because I don't know how many people have caught onto the meet-up deal? Well, someone started one in Texas. I'll try to get my dad to help as well.

Also, I am working on educating my mom by watching shows like Lou Dobbs instead of regular news show. We got into a fight almost today because she thought Kerry should stop focusing on the war and talk about jobs and stuff like that. I educated her even if it meant having to suppress my temper for her believing Kerry wasn't talking about them in the first place.

29. Hola! and welcome!
Check out the events calendar at:

www.dallasforkerry.com

We're HOPPING. Maybe you could come to the big debate party at Gilley's on Thursday? It'll be fun! We've been phonebanking and flyering to get the word out. It's on the events calendar. Flat Kerry will be there!

or come out to an event during our 72 hour voter reg-a-thon. It's not all up on the calendar yet but it will be. Don't have to work all 72 hours, heh!

30. I'll try to see what I can do Thursday
Saturday, September 25, 2004
Voter registration drive and happy hour at Double Wide beginning at 9:00 p.m. Bring your slacker friends who aren't registered to vote (you know who they are!). If you're already registered, come hang out with fellow Kerry supporters. Find out more about the John Kerry campaign and what Dallas is doing to help elect him as the next president. There will be cool Kerry gear (buttons, bumper stickers, t-shirts) for sale. And if that's not enough incentive for you, Double Wide is running a $2.00 drink special! So come help get out the vote for John Kerry and John Edwards, and show the president that Dallas is NOT Bush country!
-------------------------
Basically that was the event we were going to go to. I'll have to see if he can drop me off Thursday. I don't have a car yet and that is why I still have to depend on him to get me to places.

I'll know in 12 hours if I can are not. I'll try to see about the GILLEY'S DALLAS. I'll post once I find out if I can go Thursday night.

32. Possibility of me and maybe one more making it
I'm trying as hard as possible to make it. If I end up not making it then it will only be because the world is against me. Right now my choices are to arrive early and have my dad drop me off or trying to see if my cousin is willing to go.

What is working against me is my mother. She is the type that believes my little sister and nobody else has to have everything perfect. She is pretty much going against on this one. If my little sisters high school wasn't having their football game where shes a Dixie at them it wouldn't be a problem.

I would have also had my dad there because he's interested in seeing Kerry win as well. Plus we were both talking together about how much fun it would be watching the debate with other people. She just has him by a rope and believes he has to be there to take pictures of my little sister.

The only other issue of why I can't say for sure is even though my cousin said yes it all depends on what time he gets off from work. If he's able to get off and make it over here then it would work out. I'm not going to give up and will keep trying.

16. Spent two-and-a-half hours stuffing newsletters....
...for a literature walk this weekend.

I was planning on spending more time working on the campaign, but as they say, life is what happens when you make plans. So today was the first time in a long while that I've been able to do anything. And I tell you, today was a good day. The people I was with were all on the same page politics wise, we could vent, say what we wanted, and generally get all that pent-up stuff out of our systems. Plus, they were just damned nice people. What a catharsis!

Working helped me to reconnect with the campaign -- I admit I've been feeling a little discouraged lately, as we all have at times. But doing this today did wonders for my attitude -- it sounds stupid, but as I was stuffing these things, I kept thinking that perhaps this piece of literature could be what puts somebody definitely in Kerry's corner. Just putting it in that context lifted my mood. I left literally reenergized.

It was also good to see so many people come in off the street, wanting to buy stuff. There is A LOT of interest in Kerry -- another positive. (A downside, though: Our county leadership has really botched the yard sign thing and we currently don't have any.) I'm going to try to visit HQ as much as I can between now and November -- a great way to keep up the morale.

33. I manned a voter registration table at the University of Toronto.
We registered a few people, including, one who will sadly vote for Nader. He lives in New York, so I didn't argue with him. This guy makes me ill for his swaggering superiority. He saw me and said "Oh, RMD, are you *seriously* doing this Kerry thing?" I said, "yes, I am". I got him to register, but I didn't argue with him. I wanted him to leave ASAP.

We got 5 people to either fill out an application or take one to bring back tomorrow (one guy hadn't lived in the US for 15 years and last voted for Dukakis, and he couldn't remember which town he lived in) during the 2 hours I was there.

37. Stopped in Dem HQ to volunteer, got signs & buttons for friends, and
agreed to start phone-banking in my county (this is a brand-new effort that just started this week!)

Gave the HQ $10 for financial support

Donated $100 to Kerry

Will donate another $100 to Russ Feingold

Picked up voter registration forms and absentee ballot request forms for distribution (incl. the local nursing home).

Offered much-needed encouragement to all the college kids working at HQ in Green Bay. They are so dedicated and hard-working!

And I try to offer whatever I can here - because this place has been a refuge for a very tired and weary liberal pastor!
