Join Senior Citizens Socking It to Bush* on Wednesday,

September 29. (Wish this had done out earlier from Democrats.com, but I just got the notice.)

If any of these rallies are near you, attend if you can. I don't see any reason why you have to be a senior citizen to attend -- presumably everyone hopes to be one someday, considering the alternative!

WASHINGTON, Sept. 27 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Fed up with a president that has socked it to them with skyrocketing drug costs, record-breaking Medicare premium increases and threats to privatize Social Security, older Americans are kicking off the Presidential Debate season Wednesday, Sept. 29, by protesting George Bush's anti-senior, anti-family policies with a nationwide sock rally. The Alliance for Retired Americans is sponsoring the "Socked Out Seniors" Washington, D.C., and cross-country rallies to call attention to George Bush's failure to protect and preserve programs vital to the safety and security of seniors and their families. All socks collected at the rally will be delivered to the White House.

"This president has for four years been consistently wrong for seniors and cannot be trusted to do right by them," said Edward F. Coyle, executive director of the Alliance for Retired Americans. "Seniors will be voting November 2 like their lives depend on it. Because they do!"

2. I met some wonderful senior dems today ...
and if they had a party, I'd be there in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, most of these are across the country. Piss off seniors, and you're toast! Go get 'em!

3. Looks like a damn fine event! I'd go too if it was any where near
me. By God, these issues they raise do/will affect a lot of people, not just the retired over 60 crowd. I'm in mid 50's, recently went on disability, husband physically handicapped, I'm raising my g.son, I just received notice that I GET to use Medicare now *groan*. We struggle with housing issues, medical issues, re-parenting issues, poverty issues etc etc.

My husbands sister is in her 70's and caring for his mother who is in her 90's in a nursing home; she is having fits over the FUBARed Medicare program and what it DOES NOT provide.

Mom n law and her hubby worked their entire lives, bought and paid for a home, had money and good insurance...it all ran out, one died, now mom n law is suffering her last days with Medicare's BS! Sister n law is sick and pulling her own hair out trying to take care of all these things.

If this government/society doesn't see fit to provide basic, humane service for the elderly, then the younger family members will be having to TAKE CARE OF THEM/US. That might put a cramp in a few plans
not to mention the added COST to the family budget.

HELL YES, I'd attend one of these events....come a little closer and put a sign in my hand, give me a shove off in my scooter, and I'm good to go!
