My 51 year old Dad has never voted, registered today story!!!
My father is a Dixiecrat in Southwest Missouri who has always braged about NOT voting for the politicians he has always viewed as untrustworthy. He has always been uneducated and apathetic toward the political process. Not that the process inspires a whole hell of a lot of trust but...

I have been working on him. Passing on information about Bush, the votes, and the issues. For months! Than I passed on this quote and said the deadline to register is almost here:

"Bad officials are elected by good citizens who do not vote." -George Jean Nathan

Today, my father is a registered voter for the first time in his 51 year old life and he sure the hell isn't voting for the dry drunk form Crawford!

Moral of the story: Don't give up! We are going to win this thing!

I've heard many stories like this
a friend and co-worker of mine was telling me how her mom went from staunch Bush to undecided, and her dad from apethetic non-voter to ardent Kerryite. These changes, of course, will never be reflected in the pools.

1. congrats on getting your dad to vote for kerry! very cool!!!
my neighbors have never voted in their lives and have decided to vote this year. they are afraid of what bush is doing to this country. we are doing a house party to donate and register people to vote early. this election is full of stories like these. we just don't ever hear about it.

2. Wow I bet that was some hard work, the older we get the more stubborn
we get. I know some who are pretty tough. You get a gold star.

3. Great...
I identified with your post because I am working on my daughter and my daughter-in-law. They are registered but the terror issue has them headed in the wrong direction. I'll keep trying.

11. Thanks
for those links. I have been sending articles, not links, and my daughter is reading them. And I think my son's wife is starting to see the light. Keeping my fingers crossed and my computer busy.:)

8. Response to terra fears:
Who was CIC when we were attacked on 9/11? Who got a warning from the CIA a month ahead of time? Who stayed on vacation?

AND much like his father, he never completed the job at hand. * misdirected the war on terrorism to a needless invasion of a contained Iraq that is forever worse with US blood to blame.

How in the world can anybody feel safer under this dry drunk pilot?

12. The only thing I can
come up with is that they just don't read. They use their computers to play games and they listen to too much talk radio.

15. Well, who do they think has been President before and after 9/11?
I’ve had to rephrase my reply many times because my initial responses would have been too offensive if I were talking about my own offspring.

I have two suggestions:

1. If they are so into talk radio and computers, then get them to listen to Air America Radio.
2. If that fails, then buy them a new computer game in time for election day so they will forget about voting in the first place.

Good luck. And bless their hearts.

5. my dad has never voted before
either and he is voting this year! My mom said if he didn't feel like it on Nov. 2nd, she'd drag him there kicking and screaming. Some of my other family members have never voted and are voting for the first time ever. They all claim to be lifelong democrats but didn't see the point in voting because of the damn electoral college. They all live in N. Dakota and don't have to register... thank god for that!

6. YAY! I want to hear more stories like this.. and..
less stories here about "freeper (fill in the blank) conversations". I admonished my 21 year old stepdaughter to MAKE SURE she and ALL her friends were registered to vote FOR SURE this time. We talked about the draft... and she said all her friends are quite political (all Dems except for one guy).

Her one republican friend said he'd vote for Kerry if she votes for some Congressman he likes (republican), because he wants a deduction for State sales tax. He said he voted for Bush last time, and figured it wouldn't make any difference this time, so he'd probably vote for Kerry. Odd logic.

9. That's great!
There are a lot of people who have told me they've never voted before, but are doing so this time around. Best of all, none of them are voting for that bush terd either. They want a future and they know it's bleak under bush. Oh, and these new voters are in Indiana!

13. You will accompany him to the poll that day?
I’m a regular voter and am often confused when I enter a new polling place based on my moves or polling relocation. I hope that you’ll go together, if you can. Great work!

BTW, my efforts were not so fruitful. I am dead to my repuke family and they are dead to me. They think they are rich repukes, but they’re just middle class seniors that will never benefit from this regime. And they say, “Jesus saves.” How ironic.

“Mr. Jesus is busy right now. Can I take a message?”

14. Visitors from Germany....
My neighbor has her family visiting from Germany. They saw my car and said, Good, Good. I thought they meant my Mercedes Benz so I said, yes good car. They said not car, 'Kerry very good.' They liked my Kerry sticker.
