Did anyone see Hardball today with Bill Maher?
I can't remember what the exact words were but Maher cracked a joke about Bush being drunk and Matthews said, "We can't say that."

It was sooooo blatant! WE CAN'T SAY THAT --- because? This is really bad, B/C has everybody cowed. Maher brought up Zell Miller too and Mathews kind of laughed nervously and said he wouldn't talk about that either.

Bill Maher was NOT at his best today so I didn't finish watching Hardball. He was making fun of Kerry -- so I guess THAT'S ALL RIGHT!

Damn those people piss me off!:grr:

6. Not really
His good friend Ann Coulter?
No, he trash talked Kerry a couple of times for a laugh.
I personally don't think he's funny. He's becoming another Dennis Miller.

Maher is no whore like Matthews. His positions are very clear and consistent. He is a maverick liberal who is not afraid to speak his 'politically incorrect' mind. One think I love about Maher is he never sounds like he's reading off talking points, and has a natural talent for injecting humor into political discourse. He usually has an interesting take on things.

We NEED guys like Maher on our side. Don't judge him simply because he is not towing the party line and telling us what we want to hear.

11. He says he is libertarian but most of his positions are not,
especially on economics, the environment, and gov't regulation where he agrees with people like Nader. Maher voted for Clinton, and then for Nader in 2000 -- libertarians are no where close to Clinton or Nader on the political spectrum. Maher says he is libertarian to sound more "independent", and the fact that he supports legalized prostitution, marijuana and other libertarian social policies. I see him as a libertarian leaning liberal. Also, pundits like Pat Buchanan and Chris Matthews have referred to Maher as a "maverick liberal" and Maher has not disputed that label. IIRC he has appeared on "crossfire" arguing "from the left".

12. Do an archive search on Maher on DU.
I don't care how much you defend him. He's a libertarian. He got his nose bent out of shape because he was frisked at an airport. How dare they focus on him instead of the real criminals! That's an old white excuse that promulgates the double standard system of justice we practice in America that not only treats minorities harsher than whites, but also ignores crimes primarily committed by whites. And, apparently Maher thinks only dark skinned people should be the focus of those airport searches. Does that sound like a liberal to you? The man was too dense to remember that we still haven't found the anthrax killer, who could very well be a paramilitary white person.

14. I disagree with him on profiling, but I've followed him long enough
Edited on Wed Sep-29-04 06:07 AM by secular_warrior
to know he is on the left and pro-civil rights.. but he doesn't fit neatly into any party.

Maher isn't upset with radical Islam for reasons having to do with race. He is upset with radical Islam because he is upset with all fundamentalist religions (including fundamentalist Christianity) and the murder done in the name of this god or that. He is upset they opress their people, especially women.

He is wrong on profiling, though. That position is neither liberal nor libertarian.

16. As far as i'm concerned, right now
Libertarians are our friends.

or as the Art of War says, my enemy's enemy is my ally.

also i like Bill Maher. He rips the right far more than he rips the left, and right now, we need someone out there willignt o do that.

God bless Bill maher and Jon Stewart, for doing what everyone else is too pussy to do.

10. Maher didn't say
"what we wanted to hear" last night. He slammed Kerry for what he perceived as Kerry's weaknesses on issues and personality (not to mention botox and 'that tan' which Matthews HAD to mention :evilfrown:). I too like Maher and his humor, but think he could have been a bit more generous towards Kerry at this critical time. My husband, however, thought he was right-on, calls 'em like he sees 'em, etc. Guess that's why he's not "politically correct".

22. Did Bill and Ann have a falling out?
She used to be a regular guest on both "Politically Incorrect" and "Real Time". I haven't seen her on HBO in over a year.

13. Humor.
It's a good thing. Sometimes Mahr tries a bit too hard though.

Tweety has been consistent about Iraq. He said it was a mistake before the illegal invasion and he still feels that way. I don't agree with either most of the time but can still stand to listen to them. I can't say that about most others that I have stopped watching.

John Stewart is the best now.

15. I agree with you about Stewart....
but IMHO maher is an extreme sexist who is bordering on being a misogynist. To me that's as bad as being racist.

Peace

he is certainly NOTHING like Rush Limpballs. Geez. Bill is smart enough to vote for Kerry and he doesn't support the republicans in any way. *Most* of what Bill Maher says is quite true.

20. Funny
What I thought was far worse was when Matthews asked Maher what Bush had to do to appear more decisive than Kerry and Maher responded by saying "oh, I don't know, show up?"
