DU might consider starting another project similar to the one Will had the other day brainstorming debate scenarios.

The DU "Letters to the editor" project.

Submissions would have to conform to common letters to the editor guidelines. 150 - 200 words, and something that has a snowball's chance in hell of being actually published. Anyone with skills in the writing department can whip up sample letters on a range of topics and submit them, with the explicit understanding that they are offered up free for the taking by anyone who wants to use them without attribution.

Then they can be placed in an archive... maybe a locked thread somewhere... and people who aren't so literarily inclined can pick the ones that best say what they want to get across, personalize them a little, and then use the local media blaster to fire them off to their local editorial page.
