Kerry Must Win the 'Persuadable' Vote
Reading articles like this makes me want to rip my own eyes out. We very well may have the most ignorant electorate in the "free" world.

If Democrat John Kerry (news - web sites) has a chance of winning the White House, he must win over many in the small but central slice of the electorate known as "persuadable" voters who harbor serious doubts about his leadership abilities.

They tend to like Kerry better on handling the economy and half say a fresh start would be worth the risk. But doubts about his leadership skills are mentioned early as an obstacle to those considering a switch to the Democratic nominee.

"I've been thinking about the scare tactics (Vice President) Cheney and them are using," said James Willis, of Ayden, N.C., about GOP warnings that electing Kerry would be dangerous for the country. "It makes you wonder about turning the country over to a new person."

1. This morning I tried talking to
the guys installing new carpet in my daughter's house as I thought they might be persuadable. Turns out neither are registered, have ever voted nor will ever vote. Their rationale is that all politicans are "crooked" and it makes no difference to them who is in office. Nothing I said seemed to have any impact; war, economy, etc. They are operating in their small, insular world taking no or very little notice of what's going on outside of it. These are folks just living day to day, hand to mouth and don't realize how much worse it's going to be for them if * remains in office. There are probably thousands just like them and it reminds me of the German citizens who just went along during Hitler's rise to power.

2. I was phone banking to a rural town last night
and lots of the people just slammed the phone down in my ear or said angrily, "It's nobody business who I'm voting for!" and then hung up on me. One nutty guy played me his moose call he had just made out of birch bark to go moose hunting. Then he said, "I'm voting for Bush because Kerry's against guns and hunting!" I tried to argue with him, but he wasn't going to listen.
