Listening to some Republicans today: they are scared of the draft issue.
They know that young people and mothers are worried about a draft, and they are doing their best to spin the issue. They are bringing up the Rangel protest bill, saying it is Democrats who are trying to reinstate the draft, and that Kerry has called for more troops in Iraq. (This is from a message board full of Young Republicans.)

I hope Kerry and Edwards or their surrogates will bring up this issue. Republicans are scared because they know if the truth gets out, they will lose votes.

1. You are right.
I would love to see Kerry bring it up at the debate.

2. This makes no sense.
If these young Republicans know the truth don't they realize that if Bush wins they are possibly signing their own death warrants? How dense can they be to just pretend that its Kerry who wants to draft them? Do they think that if they believe that enough and spread it around enough it will be true?

7. Exactly.. "Kerry is an Antiwar activist trator who hates our troops"
But Kerry is going to keep us in wars and bring back the draft. They must realize how silly they sound. They can't have it both ways. Either Kerry is a war monger who plans on drafting their children or he is against war and a traitor to the troops.

3. Yeah I've seen that first hand.
My brother is a died in the wool repug. After arguing about this election I finally told him that if chimpy actually wins this time his son's gonna be drafted. Shut him up quick. That issue hits home fast.

5. Print the Draft Flyer
Edited on Wed Sep-29-04 09:01 AM by rosebud57
Go to http://somnamblst.tripod.com to print flyers. This flyer is especially effective among African Americans, as we all remember who did most of the dieing in Viet Nam. Hint it was not the wealthy.

9. In fact he sent me a draft notice,
which I sent right back telling him that CrashCart needed to fill one out instead of his getting 5 deferrmants.

6. Kerry should convert "security moms" into "draft moms".
No mother ever pushed her child out the door into war and uncertain death.

8. I told you the Rangel strategy would backfire on the Dems
Repubs just need simple twisted logic for their simple-minded constituents. That's why they have been so successful with labeling Kerry as a flip-flopper. Nobody is going to understand that he voted on different bills with different riders. And when Rangel came up with that dumb idea to be pro-active with the draft because it would scare all the Republican congressmen who have draftable children I knew they would turn it against the Dems.

Know your enemy. Republicans twist the facts to come up with a useful soundbite. The only way you can beat them is by calling them LIARS first, and then explaining why. It's simple and understandable.

10. "It's not Bush, it's the Democrats"
That is a canned response to the issue of the draft -- repugs point to Charlie Rangle's bill and say, "See, it's the Democrats that want to bring the draft back!" Of course, they overlook the political symbolism intended by Rangle, but hey the big picture has never been a repug strong point.

11. Brainwashed?
As one republican mother of three voting age kids PROUDLY posted on another forum: "my kids have been completely Hannitized and will be voting for Bush". I almost fell off my chair when I realized she truly believed this was a great thing. The only possible bright light should we lose is that these assholes will have to live with what they chose.
