Suppressing the vote in VA?
I live in a Democratic enclave (Fairfax County) in this heavily repug state. For 15 years I have voted at my kids' school which is literally right around the corner. This year I received my new voter registration card , and had I not looked very closely, I wouldn't have noticed that I am now to vote at a totally new location, nowhere near as close to my home. My understanding is that in VA precincts are drawn by the repug-dominated legislature and overseen by the Secretary of State (another wing-nut who is already gearing up to run for Governor next year). Am I being needlessly paranoid, or is there absolutely no level to which these bastards will not stoop? Or, on a more hopeful note, could this mean that Virginia is actually in play?

1. I haven't gotten mine this year yet
and I'm your neighbor (Prince William County) but why not contact your county councilman and ask why it was moved?

Come back and post. I'd be interested to hear their answer.

2. "VA is in Play"
(hee, I made a rhyme)

If Mark Warner could beat Earley, then VA is in play.

Unfortunately, I live in MD now, so I can't help contribute to VA going Blue State this year . . .

3. Needlessly paranoid
no offense...voting locations change all the time. I've voted in four different places in the past five years. All while living in the same place.

4. Do you have a local Democratic club?
If so, talk to your county chair and/or any semi-official people you can think of to let them know about this. Publicize it during meetings, and at local rallies and events. Get the word out!

You need to spread the news as much as possible before the election. I would try to find out how many other precincts are affected too.

5. we-e-e-ll...poll locations can change for un-nefarious reasons
at least in Philadelphia. It's a huge hassle to host the activity, and sometimes the host decides not to do it anymore.

Your local grassroots party person should be keeping you informed. The newspapers here in Philly publish all the locations citywide the day or so before the election. Finally on election day there should be a sign at your old location directing you to the new one.

Yes, Virginia (just wanted to say that) is in play!

7. My registration vanished!!
I've been a registered Dem in NYC for 22 years and vote every 4 years. This year I decided to be safe and check to make sure I was still registered. Guess what? No record of my registration and the last time they show me voting is 1988-and I haven't moved. I of course re-registered although I still haven't received my confirmation yet I wonder how many people in my area will go to the polls Election Day & find they can't vote because some idiot at the board of elections lost their records.
