Fox is #1 news outlet.....
I don't know whether to be happy or sad about this:

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=1951&ncid=2019&e=1&u=/variety/20040928/va_tv_ne/fox_news_beats_all_rivals

NEW YORK -- For the first time in its history, Fox News Channel beat the combined competition in primetime during the third quarter of 2004, with major headlines of the summer including the national political conventions and a brutal string of hurricanes.

According to Nielsen Media Research, Fox News averaged 1.8 million viewers, while CNN, MSNBC, CNBC and Headline News averaged a combined total of 1.7 million. The quarter ended Sunday.

1. the others are whores also so i have no wish for them to succeed
in fact they are worse in many ways since fox is pretty much known to be a right wing station by many. but the others are seen as more legitimate when they are not.

2. They don't talk about the broadcast networks, however
They do mention that Faux beat the broadcast networks during coverage of the Republican convention -- no surprise there. However, the broadcast network news normally pull in several times what the cable news networks do.

3. Any surprises there?
With the educational rate of this country dropping like a lead balloon, I'm not surprised that the great unwashed masses turn to Fox as their "news" source.

I weep for the future.

13. I am crying at your side buddy.
I agree. It is a sad day when around 50% of the voting populace follows a guy who makes his point in 5 words or less and complains because the other guy is actually explaining his view.

By the way, how many people have ADD?

LOL.

7. CNN and MSNBC could have had much higher ratings
had they not chose to be FAUX NEWS 2 & 3. They could have had the Democratic viewership...in their pockets! We ARE a MAJORITY out here. They fucked up when they tried to copy Faux news. They deserve to be in the toilet with their ratings. They cut off their own noses to spite their faces. HELL...MSNBC canceled their HIGHEST rated show, Donahue, because Phil was anti-war/anti-chimp and it wouldn't look good in the MARCH TO SHOCK AND AWE. I'm HAPPY to see this. Maybe they will open their damn eyes now and give the Majority a network. Dumb Fucks!

I got the original link form some gloating freepers, i pretty much bursted their bubble when i said "serves them right - there is no option for an opposing view, so why watch any of the others, when they are all parroting the same points."

10. Do you really understand what you are doing, staring at that screen?
}(

Here is some fun reading:

TURN OFF YOUR
TELEVISION!

by L. Wolfe
(snip)
This brainwashing is called 'hard' because its methods are overt. The controlled environment is obvious to the victim; so is the terror. The victim is overwhelmed by a seemingly omnipotent external force, and a feeling of intense isolation is induced. The victim's moral strength is sapped, and slowly he embraces his torturers. It is Man's moral strength that informs and orders His power of reason; without it, the mind becomes little more than a recording machine waiting for imprints.

No one is saying that you have been a victim of 'hard' brainwashing. But you have been brainwashed, just as effectively as those people in the movies. The blank stare? Did you ever look at what you look like while watching television? If the angle is right, you might catch your own reflection in the screen. Jaw slightly open, lips relaxed into a smile. The blank stare of a television zombie.

This is 'soft ' brainwashing, even more effective because its victims go about their lives unaware of what is being done to them.

Television, with its reach into nearly every American home, creates the basis for the mass brainwashing of citizens, like you. It works on a principle of 'tension and release'. Create tension, in a controlled environment, increasing the level of stress. Then provide a series of choices that provide release from the tension. As long as the victim believes that the choices presented are the 'only' choices available, even if they are at first glance unacceptable, he will nevertheless, ultimately seek release by choosing one of these unacceptable choices.

Under these circumstances, in a brainwashing, controlled environment, such choice-making is not a "rational" experience. It does not involve the use of Man's creative mental powers; instead Man is conditioned, like an animal, to respond to the tension, by seeking release.

14. This is somewhat misleading.
While more people are watching Fox News during any given hour, more people watch CNN during a 24 hour period. This is because many Fox News viewers watch it, and only it, all day long whereas most CNN viewers tune in for a particular show or news update and then watch other channels.
The Ratings Mirage

Why Fox has higher ratings--when CNN has more viewers

By Steve Rendall

. . .

After exposure to countless similar stories published since January 2002, when Fox was reported to have surpassed CNN in the Nielsen ratings, one might naturally conclude that Fox has more viewers than CNN.

But it's not true. On any given day, more people typically tune to CNN than to Fox.

. . .

How can CNN have more total viewers when Fox has such a commanding lead in average viewers? Conventional industry wisdom is that CNN viewers tune in briefly to catch up on news and headlines, while Fox viewers watch longer for the opinion and personality-driven programming. Because the smaller total number of Fox viewers are watching more hours, they show up in the ratings as a higher average number of viewers.

16. I just sent the article to CNN feedback.
I really had the NEED to rub their face in it. I also suggested they change their RW tact and try to garner the Democratic viewers since we ARE a Majority.

17. you know....
when I am looking for news, I usually scan the news channels for something interesting. If it's on CNN, MSNBC (Jon Stewart said they had not earned all of their letters...lol), Fox or whatever I usually watch it. I will watch Fox, until my set starts leaning over to the right, then I switch. In all fairness, I have seen some decent stuff on Fox.....but you have to be very selective.

I know......flame away...

There are other places to get news that you can check the validity of the story.
All the news networks are doing is selling shrub and his fear machine.
