Windsurfing & Skiing Are "Fancy" Sports? Out Of Touch Mediawhores
IMO, this could very well be used to NAIL the GOP, BUSH AND THE MEDIAWHORES. Make them appear as out of touch as they really are with the "common man".

Apparently Diane Sawyer thinks Kerry's enjoyment of windsurfing and skiing are "elitist" or "fancy".

Nevermind she's just parroting GOP talking points.

How out of touch are these freaks?

I live in an area (Hamptons) where people of all income levels come to vacation.

PLENTY of normal, middle class people rent wind surfing gear, or bring their own, and go out on the bay.

As for skiing... a woman I worked with years ago used to scrimp and save to go skiing every winter with her husband.

Heck, LOTS of people do these sports that aren't wealthy.

NO ONE I know clears brush for a freaking hobby. Work out in the veggie garden- YES... but clearing brush?

Frankly, this could be used to make all the whores and liars look stupid.

6. And yachting. And Segway falling-off.
Don't Segways go for about $5000 a pop?

I find this kind of thing so frustrating and ridiculous. Sawyer could have easily created the opposite impression by showing Bush on the yacht or Segway and Kerry fishing or hunting. Or biking or playing hockey. What is the purpose of this silly waste of time? And does she really believe Bush's ceremonial brush-clearing means something?

11. I've been thinking Kerry should make a flip-flop ad of Bush Segway
I bet they don't Segway in Middle America or Harlem!

And snowboarding really should appeal to the GenX.

7. They don't mention Bushco's marathon bike riding fiascos either

I am really angry about the snarky media focus on Kerry and his fitness activities and the 'tan'. Anyone watching Diane Sawyer's interview with Kerry filmed just yesterday could see that Kerry looks normal, there is no unusual 'tan' but once again media was straining to find something else to use to diminish Kerry and make him look ridiculous.

3. rediculous-anus, innit?
Hell, I used to fly airplanes. Talk about a 'fancy' sport. Does that make me an elitist? Hell no. I scrimped and saved just to fly and had to give it up later due to the expense. But I did it and a lot of other things, too.

bu$hit is 'better' because he wears a cowboy hat and plays in the shrubbery? Better able to 'connect' with the 'common man' because of it?

I don't THINK so but that is what the mediaslutz are saying, indirectly.
Look up 'demagoguery' on dictionary.com. That's what we're dealing with here. Pure, unadulterated bullshit.

8. that was the stupidest thing I've seen in a long time
She even had her little posters prepared.

I think Kerry was disgusted with the inanity of it all, but he hid it well.

I'm positive a lot of people watching were disgusted, me for example. :puke:

16. I Wish Kerry Or Democrats Would Start Calling The Mediawhores Out
politely, and with humor.

But for them to continue on with a straight face is NOT helping.

Wes Clark is a good example of how to handle stuff.... towards the end... he learned to basically give that beautiful good natured laugh of his. And occassionally flashed a bit of righteous indignation when some whore got really over the line.

9. How about snowboarding? Kerry does that too, dudes/dudettes.
. . .and many young voters do, too.

Plus he rides Harleys and hunts. Pretty good shot, I hear.

13. They're middle class sports...
Edited on Wed Sep-29-04 11:13 AM by Bridget Burke
But there are upper class ways of doing them.

Down here in the flatlands (Houston), you need to travel to go skiing--Colorado or maybe New Mexico. Ken Lay may have needed several houses in Aspen, but the resorts all have special package deals. And quite a few people in other states live close enough to the slopes that it's a day trip.

An "entry level" windsurfing kit can be had for 1K (or you can rent). http://windsurfing-direct.com/
It helps to live close to a beach--but lots of people live within a short drive; definitely true in Houston. In fact, they can load the equipment on their SUV--how all-American is that?

Clearing brush is not a sport; a real rancher lets his hands do the work. If you run cattle, they'll keep the brush down. Anybody doing this in August is seriously demented. And how much did that play ranch cost?

14. Top-of-the-line Bush bike cost $3100
http://www.boston.com/news/politics/president/bush/articles/2004/07/26/ap_exclusive_bush_the_mountain_biker_rides_hard_shrugs_off_crash/

"At my age, you're more concerned about the cardiovascular" benefits of a workout, the 58-year-old president said. And mountain biking, he said, has a certain "mind-clearing" effect.

His bike is one of the best: a Trek Fuel 98 made of space-age carbon fiber with rear suspension that soaks up big bumps.

List price: about $3,100. He had it specially fitted by a Washington bicycle retailer.

Would being specially fitted drive it even further above the list price?

generally make less than typical middle class. these people are so devoted to their sport, their jobs come second to their chosen recreation, as does politics. now golfers on the other hand...
